You’ll find yourself needing Scrap Metal often while playing Outbound. Unlike some resources like Everwood, it’s not always obvious where to find it. Luckily, this guide will show you exactly where and how to get Scrap Metal in Outbound, so you can craft everything you need and continue your RV adventure.
How to Get Scrap Metal in Outbound
You’ll find Scrap Metal right beside Signal Towers. These towers let you download blueprints for making tools, furniture, and other improvements for your camper van.
Okay, so I just found out something really useful! If you’re like me and need a lot of Scrap Metal – especially when you start checking out the tougher areas – don’t worry about running out. I discovered that if you sleep through the night and come back to the Signal Towers the next day, the Scrap Metal will have respawned. It’s a total lifesaver!
Once you get to the canyons, all the signal towers will be built from wood, meaning you won’t be able to find any scrap metal there. I strongly suggest gathering as much as you can in the first two areas so you don’t have to go back later.
Okay, so when I find one of those Signal Towers on my map, I need to keep an eye out for these big, dark metal pieces on the ground. They seem to have broken off the tower itself, and the screenshot shows exactly what I’m looking for. It’s pretty easy to spot them once you know what to expect!
Collecting these scraps gives you three pieces of Scrap Metal. This is unique because most resources only give you one item per pickup – for instance, finding a piece of Everwood will only add one Everwood to your inventory.
You can also find Scrap Metal in supply boxes near campsites – look for the ones with campfires. However, what you find inside those boxes is random, and usually includes things like Fiber, Everwood, or Stone, based on my experience.
What is Scrap Metal Used for in Outbound?
In Outbound, Scrap Metal is a key ingredient for crafting. You’ll need it for several recipes, and here are a few you’ll encounter early on:
- Recycler
- Axe
- Sawmill
- Base Building Deck
- Folding Camping Chair
- Camping Lamp
- Owl Bobblehead
You’ll likely find even more uses for Scrap Metal as you play, so this isn’t a complete list. But generally, it’s best to use your Scrap Metal to build or upgrade essential workstations and tools before decorating your RV with furniture or accessories.
It’s hard to say exactly how much Scrap Metal you’ll need, but it’s a good idea to always have 5-10 pieces with you in your vehicle. That way, you won’t have to waste time looking for it when you need it.
