Outbound doesn’t focus heavily on detailed survival elements, but you’ll still need to manage your health, energy, and your van’s battery. Keeping your health and energy up is fairly simple, but the van’s battery can be a challenge, especially when you’re first starting out. Driving uses battery power, and the weight of items you carry and upgrades you add to your van also affect how quickly it drains. Because of this, you’ll likely be looking for ways to recharge your van’s battery quite often while playing Outbound.

How to Recharge Camper Van Battery in Outbound

In Outbound, you have several options for recharging your van’s battery: you can use wood and fiber as fuel, locate dedicated recharge stations, or harness green energy sources like wind and solar power. Here’s a breakdown of how each method works.

Using Wood and Fiber to Refuel Your Camper Van Engine

At the beginning of the game, you’ll primarily recharge your camper van by using its Power Unit. You can find this unit by opening the van’s engine bay – it’s on the left side. Simply add Fiber and wood types like Everwood or Silverbark Wood to burn and create fuel.

Adding more of each material will restore more energy. While this can be helpful in emergencies, remember these materials are also key ingredients for crafting tools, improving your van, and building machines you’ll need to advance. So, it’s best to use this method only when necessary and prioritize the other options whenever possible.

Recharge Stations

In the game Outbound, Recharge Stations are rare but essential for keeping your camper van powered. They resemble tiny gas stations, but instead of pumps, they have a small roof overhead. Once you discover one, it’ll appear on your map as a lightning bolt symbol on a small pylon, as shown in the image below.

Find a charging station and park your van inside the designated parking spaces. Then, use the charging terminal – simply press the button, and your vehicle will quickly charge automatically.

Recharge stations can only be used once every 15 minutes, and they aren’t found everywhere. Although helpful, finding one might require a detour, so they aren’t the best option when your power is critically low.

Using Wind and Solar Power

As you progress in the game, you’ll be able to unlock blueprints for solar panels and wind turbines. You can attach these to the roof of your van, and they’ll generate power from the sun and wind to recharge your battery. Just remember this only works when your van is stationary – not while you’re driving.

Keep in mind that the weather in Outbound changes daily, so solar panels and wind turbines won’t always be useful. It’s a good idea to use both together to guarantee you always have a renewable energy source available.

You can craft a solar panel using five Scrap Metal. Unlike some items, you don’t need a workbench. Simply place it on the roof of your camper van after laying down some wooden flooring. For it to work, make sure it’s exposed to direct sunlight and not blocked by shade.
