How to Get Rough Stuffing in Outbound

In Outbound, you’re free to roam the world in your camper van however you like – but you’ll need to upgrade your van and gather tools to fix things like broken bridges. While not essential, Rough Stuffing is really useful when you’re first starting out and exploring on foot. This guide will show you how to find Rough Stuffing and what it’s used for, so you can take advantage of everything it offers.

How to Get Rough Stuffing in Outbound

You can get Rough Stuffing by collecting reeds in the game. These usually grow near water, like ponds and lakes, and are easy to spot thanks to their long stems and red tips. I’ve added a picture below to help you find them.

Unlike other materials, you won’t find ‘large’ reeds that give you more Rough Stuffing when you gather them. Instead, each reed you collect always yields one unit of Rough Stuffing. However, reeds usually grow in clusters, so it’s generally easy to find a decent supply in one spot.

If you discover Rough Stuffing growing near a pond or lake, take a walk around the entire shoreline. You’ll likely find more reeds suitable for harvesting elsewhere.

What Is Rough Stuffing Used for in Outbound?

Rough Stuffing is an item you can craft with to improve your clothes at the Sewing Table. To create a basic Clothing Upgrade, you’ll need four Rough Stuffing and four Thread.

As you play, you’ll learn new recipes for the Sewing Table, which will be helpful while traveling on foot. You unlock these recipes by interacting with Signal Towers and Landmark computers – things you’ve likely already found during your first few hours of gameplay.

When you first start playing Outbound, you’ll notice that most of the decorations for your van, like charms and flowers, need Fiber to make. You might eventually find some that use Rough Stuffing, but it’s usually better to save your Rough Stuffing for important upgrades, tools, and machines.

Rough Stuffing can’t be used to charge your camper van’s battery, unlike wood or fiber.
