In Outbound , you’ll travel the world, discovering landmarks, setting up camp, and finding hidden spots. To help you on your journey, you’ll also need to craft various items. One resource you’ll need to gather early on is Fiber. It can be tricky to find a lot of it at first, but once you know where to look, it becomes easier. This guide will show you everything you need to know about finding Fiber and how to use it.

How to Get Fiber in Outbound

You can find Fiber by looking for orange-red bushes growing in the wild. When you start playing Outbound, check the north/northwest part of the map, just north of the lookout tower. I’ve included a picture to help you locate it.

To break one of these bushes, press A if you’re playing on Xbox, X on PlayStation, or left-click on a PC. This will give you one Fiber.

At first, you can only gather Fiber from the small bushes. You’ll need a sickle to break down the larger bushes. Once you have a sickle (even a basic one), using it on the large bushes will give you 3 Fiber at a time, which is much faster for crafting.

What Is Fiber Used for in Outbound?

Fiber is a key material used to build the Sewing Table, and also to create items with the Sewing Table, like backpack upgrades and new clothing. You’ll need 6 Fiber just to build the Sewing Table itself, and 12 more for the first backpack upgrade. You can also use Fiber with the Spinning Wheel – it costs 10 Fiber to make the wheel, and then you can turn Fiber into Thread, which is essential for crafting better clothing.

Fiber is a key ingredient for making decorations for your van, but those items aren’t actually useful for progressing in the game. If you want to finish the game quickly, it’s best to save your Fiber for crafting essential tools and machines instead.

Remember, the Sewing Table isn’t the only place to get upgrades. You’ll also need items like Thread and Rough Stuffing. As you play, you’ll discover these materials and learn how to turn things you find – like Fiber – into useful items such as Thread.

You can actually use fiber as fuel to charge your camper van’s battery, which could be useful in a pinch. However, it’s generally better to rely on other fuel sources or charging stations, as fiber has many other valuable uses and isn’t always easy to come by.

It’s a good idea to get Fiber quickly so you can craft the Sewing Table and Backpack Upgrade 1. These will make collecting resources much easier as you play.
