How to Get Coarse Ore in Outbound

Finding materials in Outbound is generally easy at first, but it gets harder as you advance. Coarse Ore is usually the first material players struggle to locate. It spawns in a hidden spot within the starting area, accessible only by walking. This guide will show you exactly where to find Coarse Ore in Outbound, helping you progress to the next map.

Where to Find Coarse Ore in Outbound

You can find Coarse Ore in the northeast part of the first Outbound map. It’s located just northeast of the vehicle lift and south of the tunnel that’s blocked off at the edge of the area. I’ve marked the precise spot on the map below.

Just past the split in the road north of the vehicle lift, there’s a dirt path heading upwards between a rocky cliff. My camper van couldn’t manage the climb even with its first engine upgrade, so I had to hike up on foot.

The area has a lot of scrap metal scattered around, but you’re looking for a special ore with three black points sticking up. If you find one and have a pickaxe, you can mine it to get three pieces of Coarse Ore.

You can only find Coarse Ore in this specific spot on the map, so be sure to search the area carefully and collect as much as possible – you’ll need it for crafting.

What Is Coarse Ore Used for in Outbound?

You’ll need Coarse Ore and Rocks to build a Metal Smelter. The Smelter lets you refine scrap and ore into usable metal. Specifically, you’ll use the Smelter to combine two Scrap Metal into one Metal, which is then used to craft Reinforced Planks.

Okay, so I’ve learned that if you want to get anywhere, you need Reinforced Planks. They’re essential for crafting the Level 2 Pickaxe. With that pickaxe, I can finally smash those Mossrock boulders that are blocking my path out of the starting area in the northeast! Even better, it unlocks the mines down in the southeast – just south of that big waterfall. It’s a total game-changer!
