Nacon and crea-ture Studios have announced a new action-adventure game called Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn. It’s a Metroidvania-style game based on the fifth edition of Werewolf: The Apocalypse, and it’s planned as a smaller release following their 2022 game, Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood. Players can expect to play on consoles and PC in 2027.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn is an action-adventure game played from an overhead perspective, similar to Metroidvania titles. You play as a werewolf whose powers emerge after a friend is killed, and you embark on a quest for revenge across Alaska. You can transform into three different werewolf forms – human, wolf, and Crinos – and the game’s challenging combat requires you to constantly adapt your tactics, as enemies learn from your actions.
Louis Lamarche, Creative Director and President at crea-ture Studios, explained the game’s concept:
Hi, I’m Louis Lamarche, the creative director and president of crea-ture Studios. We’re a small, independent game studio located in Quebec, Canada. I’m thrilled to introduce our new game, Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn. It’s an action adventure game based on the 5th Edition of Werewolf: The Apocalypse. We took a lot of inspiration from classic action adventure games, and we were particularly drawn to the Werewolf universe because the character’s ability to shapeshift naturally lends itself to a Metroidvania-style gameplay experience.
This new project is smaller in scope than Earthblood, created by the team behind Call of Cthulhu and Styx: Blades of Greed, but it’s expected to be a great addition to the Werewolf: The Apocalypse series for fans.
The game uses a Metroidvania style, meaning players will explore areas, find shortcuts, and return to previously visited locations. As they become more powerful and the story unfolds, they’ll unlock new abilities to help them progress – a design that complements the game’s world perfectly.
The action RPG Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC in 2027. You can watch the announcement trailer below.
