Giant Skeleton Decks and Counters in Clash Royale

Initially when Clash Royale debuted, the Giant Skeleton card was among the most intimidating in the arena. The worst scenario was allowing the Giant Skeleton to link up with your Crown Tower. One unyielding connection and it would instantly lead to losing the Tower due to its destructive explosion.

Although the card might not be extremely powerful in the current game environment, it remains quite popular among players, particularly in mid-ladder ranks where it’s often employed as the main winning strategy. In contrast, at the top ladder, decks utilizing this card tend to use it more for defensive purposes or to provide usefulness during offensive plays.

Giant Skeleton Card Overview in Clash Royale

In the game Clash Royale, while the Giant Skeleton might not fit the traditional definition of a “True Tank”, it boasts an impressive health reserve. This health capacity surpasses that of a Goblin Giant in tournament level play, yet unlike the widely-used beatdown troop, the Giant Skeleton does not target buildings. Instead, it seeks out any unit that enters its range of attack.

This card requires a hefty six elixirs to play, which might appear expensive for a standard troop. However, the Giant Skeleton provides significant value for its cost. It dishes out heavy blows and boasts an immense health reserve. What sets it apart is its death explosion, inflicting massive damage on any nearby troops or structures when it’s destroyed.

In most cases, players deploying the Giant Skeleton aim to obstruct a lane by its slow advancement. The large skeletal figure moves steadily along the lane and serves as a shield against enemy troops trying to push through. When the Giant Skeleton is destroyed, its explosion clears any remaining units on the battlefield. It’s strategically beneficial to place the Giant Skeleton behind the Golem when countering Golem pushes to allow it to eliminate supporting cards more effectively.

The Giant Skeletons’ death bomb also damages air troops, such as the Lava Hound and Lava Pups.

How to Counter Giant Skeleton in Clash Royale

On defense, the Giant Skeleton is largely unopposed, but offensively, it lacks strength and can be easily outmaneuvered by opponents. It’s susceptible to being chased around (kited), and due to its sluggish movement and attack rate, it’s relatively easy for troops like swarm units to bring it down. Additionally, anti-tank forces such as the Mini Pekka or Inferno Dragon are particularly effective against the Giant Skeleton.

The main danger posed by the Giant Skeleton isn’t just its hit points or attack power, but rather the destructive force of its “death bomb.” This explosive blast causes area-of-effect damage to all troops, and its impact is particularly severe: it deals 534 damage among troops. On towers, however, the damage escalates significantly, reaching a whopping 1068 – the equivalent of receiving two rockets on a tower.

If a colossal skeleton is approaching your fortress, deploy swarm troops such as Skeleton Army or Goblin Gang to divert it from your tower. Alternatively, Fisherman can be used to tug it away prior to its demise, preventing the explosion from damaging your base. The Witch is particularly effective against the Giant Skeleton due to her continuous skeletal spawns. Employing these strategies will result in a favorable elixir trade for you.

Pekka or Mega Knight are also solid counters, but you’ll be overspending on defense.

Best Decks with the Giant Skeleton in Clash Royale

Although the Giant Skeleton may not be the most powerful option in Clash Royale at present, it does have its strategic roles within certain decks. Let me share with you the top three decks that are currently thriving in the game’s meta.

Deck 1

Card Name Elixir Cost
Evo Lumberjack 4
Evo Mega Knight 7
The Log 2
Minions 3
Skeleton Dragons 4
Monk 5
Ram Rider 5
Giant Skeleton 6

In this deck, we’re using a variant of the Mega Knight Bridge spam strategy, which incorporates the freshly released Evo Lumberjack and Evo Mega Knight. The Monk acts as our main champion card. The Giant Skeleton primarily functions as a defensive unit within this deck but can also exert pressure on both lanes during the double elixir phase when the game enters that stage.

Deck 2

Card Name Elixir Cost
Evo Goblin Drill 4
Evo Wizard 5
Barbarian Barrel 2
Tornado 3
Royal Ghost 3
Golden Knight 4
Cannon Cart 5
Giant Skeleton 6

This Goblin Deck with a Cyclic Strategy employs a classic duo of Giant Skeleton and Tornado, applying constant pressure on the opponent. Position the Goblin Drill at the rear of their Tower, place the Giant Skeleton on the bridge. Utilize Tornado to lure in any enemy troops trying to dodge the Giant Skeleton, ensuring the explosive skeleton reaches the Tower.

Deck 3

Card Name Elixir Cost
Evo Skeletons 1
Evo Cannon 3
Ice Spirits 1
The Log 2
Earthquake 3
Hog Rider 4
Archer Queen 5
Giant Skeleton 6

In the world of Clash Royale, although the popular choice might have shifted away from the traditional Hog EQ cycle deck, it remains one of the most potent options if you’re a fan of the giant Skeleton. The Archer Queen triggers the champion cycle, speeding up your card draw, while the Giant Skeleton effectively shuts down a lane as you advance with your Hog Rider on the opposing side.
