Reaching the Spiral Tube Room of Chapter 5 in Portal 2

To bypass it, create a portal on the side where it opens and another one on any white surfaces within the starting room. Although portals are a key feature in Portal 2, they won’t be as useful in this particular chapter. Upon leaving the room through the now open door and onto a metal walkway, Wheatley will offer his commentary.

As Wheatley travels along a track, the surrounding area will grow dim, but he’ll switch on a light and carry on his path. Stick with Wheatley until you reach a stationary belt-conveyor. Jump onto this conveyor and follow it all the way to its end. Along the way, there will be a platform on your left side. Continue moving along the metal walkway while Wheatley talks, and you’ll eventually come across a drop with a moving belt at the bottom.

As you move along this conveyor belt, you’ll notice occasional panels passing by, which pose no harm. However, be cautious of the lasers at the other end. Keep an eye on the left-hand side for an opening; Wheatley will alert you when you are close to it. This area is somewhat concealed, almost like a secret spot.

As you proceed, keep to the left side of this route. You’ll encounter a damaged section of the pathway that you can leap over. Following your jump, turn left and ascend the stairs. Once you’ve reached the top, look for a portal on the wall in front of you and shoot it. Look up and to the left to spot an opening concealed behind some railings. Find another portal above this location, shoot it, then use the first portal you created to access it.

1. Make your way to the opposite side of the room and keep a lookout for Wheatley approaching. He’ll signal you by shining his light on a wall. Once he does, create a portal on that wall and another one within the same room. This action will transport you onto a metal railing.

2. Afterwards, Wheatley will indicate where another wall is and shine his light there. Create a portal at the spot illuminated by his light and use it to travel to this location.

3. Follow the walkway and take the first right turn. This path leads to a room with a spiral tube. Traverse the spiral and then leap over the railing into the room just above the ground floor. This action will bring you to an open door.

Afterwards, proceed to the end of the walkway and glance to your right. You will notice a flashing light on a white surface. Create another portal there and step through the first one you made. This will transport you to a room with a door promising access to an emergency shut-off for GLaDOS.

The moment the walls start closing in on me, you can bet your boots that GLaDOS will begin her monologue. When an opening appears, it’s time to drop down and find myself being guided towards her. What follows is a series of events, all evidence of the havoc I’ve wreaked throughout Chapter 5. I’ll keep moving forward until I hear mention of a core transfer.

It’s often surprising to players that GLaDOS, despite appearances, is incredibly large. Those who have encountered her in virtual reality find her particularly imposing when viewed at such a close range.
