A LEGO enthusiast reimagined the Rivendell set, originally from The Lord of the Rings, transforming it into Osgiliath, the ancient capital of Gondor. A key part of the joy of collecting LEGOs is the ability to use creativity and rebuild sets into something completely new, even if it’s different from what they were designed to be. This freedom is a major draw for many fans, and it likely explains why the LEGO Smart Brick—which limited building possibilities—didn’t gain much popularity after it was revealed.
LEGO’s Lord of the Rings sets are beloved by fans for their incredible detail and faithful recreation of characters and locations. The Rivendell set, in particular, is considered one of the most impressive and popular LEGO sets of recent years. However, the full range of Lord of the Rings LEGO sets isn’t very large, and many important places and events from the books and movies haven’t been made into LEGO yet.
Custom LEGO Lord of the Rings Osgiliath Build From Rivendell Set
I was blown away by this incredible Osgiliath build I saw on Reddit! A user named FirstOrderLego made it, and they even used pieces from the LEGO Lord of the Rings Rivendell set – can you believe it? They said it’s a pretty big build, but only used about 30% of the Rivendell pieces, plus they built two little wooden boats! It’s designed to look like the ruined city from the movies and books, with broken arches sticking out of the water, crumbling towers, and statues of past kings. It’s seriously impressive!

The statues are a particularly nice detail, reminiscent of the original LEGO Lord of the Rings minifigures, as they’re fully grey figures complete with heads, hair, and accessories. The boats are also a cool addition to this custom LEGO build (MOC), representing Sauron’s forces reclaiming the outpost’s riverbanks. Because the build was so well-received, other Reddit users requested that FirstOrderLego share the instructions on Rebrickable, but they haven’t done so yet.
LEGO fans of The Lord of the Rings have a huge new set to look forward to! The massive Minas Tirith set, containing 8,278 pieces, will be released in June 2026. It includes minifigures of Denethor, Pippin, Faramir, Aragorn, Arwen, Gandalf the White, four Gondor soldiers, and Gandalf’s horse. LEGO Insiders members can purchase it starting June 1st, 2026, while it will be available to the general public from June 4th, 2026.
This LEGO set is massive and inspires fans to build their own famous locations from The Lord of the Rings. While it’s disappointing that not all the Hobbits are included as minifigures, it makes sense that Aragorn and Arwen are, as they become the rulers of Gondor after the war.
