5. The Worst Drop in Animation Quality in Recent Memory
When One-Punch Man first appeared, it quickly became popular thanks to its amazing animation – some fans even call it the best ever. Because Season 1 set such a high standard, especially during Saitama’s fight with Boros, viewers have been eagerly anticipating the same level of visual quality in later seasons.
The animation quality dipped noticeably when Season 2 came out, though fans weren’t too upset. However, Season 3 was a real low point – the animation often looked like simple still images with minimal movement. This caused most fans to lose interest, as One-Punch Man quickly went from being known for its amazing animation to being considered one of the worst.
4. The Wait Between Seasons Is Too Long
The first season of One Punch Man came out in October 2015 and quickly became a huge hit, leaving fans eagerly awaiting a second season. While excitement remained high for a long time, it gradually faded as the new season didn’t arrive as quickly as people expected, finally airing four years later.
I noticed the show ran into trouble mostly because of issues happening during production, and they even switched animation studios. This really impacted Season 3, which took six years to finally come out – and unfortunately, the animation quality wasn’t great. After waiting so long, a lot of the initial excitement died down, and many fans just lost interest in the series altogether.

3. Season 3’s Mid-Season Break Makes No Sense
Season 3 of One-Punch Man received a lot of criticism, mainly because the animation wasn’t very good. Even so, many fans continued watching because they enjoyed the story and characters. This season adapts the Monster Association arc, which is often considered the best part of the entire series.
To make things even more frustrating for viewers, Season 3 will be released in two parts, with the second half not coming out until 2027. After a six-year wait and a Season 2 that many fans disliked, the remaining episodes are still a year away, and that’s likely to cause even more viewers to lose interest.
2. Even The Highlights Are Poorly Adapted
Fans have been consistently disappointed with the animation quality of Season 3, finding it noticeably worse than previous seasons. What makes it even more frustrating is that even the most important moments, like action sequences, haven’t received the extra polish typically seen in anime, where studios usually reserve their best animation for key scenes.
I’m a huge anime fan, and a great example of how animation can really make or break a show is comparing Dragon Ball Super and One-Punch Man. Dragon Ball Super definitely has its ups and downs, but when they really go all out – especially with someone like Yuya Takahashi working on it, like during Goku’s Ultra Instinct battle with Jiren – the animation is amazing. Unfortunately, One-Punch Man just consistently suffers from pretty poor animation quality throughout the whole series, which is a real shame.
1. The Infrequency of the Manga Hurts the Franchise
Similar to the anime’s first season, the One-Punch Man manga is highly praised for its stunning artwork and incredible visuals, all thanks to the amazing talent of Yusuke Murata. Many fans consider One-Punch Man to have some of the best art in all of manga.
Even though Murata is incredibly talented, the manga does have its issues. The biggest one is the inconsistent release schedule – sometimes weeks or even months pass between chapters, and occasionally entire story arcs get reworked. This can be really frustrating for readers. It might not seem like a big deal for the anime, but those problems with the manga can definitely affect the animated version.
