New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is now streaming regularly on Twitch, allowing people to connect with him directly. He hosted his first live stream, called “Talk With The People,” on May 21st.
Since winning the election for New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani has quickly become a well-known political figure. He effectively used platforms like Twitter and Facebook to connect with younger voters during his campaign and continues to keep residents informed. Mayor Mamdani has also gained recognition for his forward-thinking ideas, such as opening grocery stores run by the city government. Now, he’s expanding his reach even further by joining Twitch to connect with an even broader audience.
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Goes Live on Twitch
I was so excited to hear that Mayor Mamdani is going to be streaming on Twitch! He’s calling the series “Talk With The People,” and it seems like a really cool way for him to connect directly with New Yorkers like me. From what I understand, he’ll mostly be talking about what’s going on with the city – his plans and policies – but he’s also open to answering questions from viewers. He actually did his first stream on May 21st, and it was pretty interesting! He covered everything from the city budget to even the Knicks’ playoff run. It’s just a more personal way to hear from our mayor, which I think is awesome.

Mamdani’s recent livestream isn’t the first instance of politicians using platforms like Twitch to connect with voters directly. Several well-known politicians, including U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have streamed on Twitch, either on their own channels or by appearing as guests on popular streamers’ broadcasts, such as those of Pokimane and Myth. Ocasio-Cortez even played Madden NFL 25 live with Minnesota governor Tim Walz, who was running for vice president in 2024. Throughout the election, both major presidential candidates, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, regularly used Twitch to stream press conferences and rallies.
In recent years, platforms like Twitch and YouTube have become increasingly popular spaces for political content. Twitch now features a dedicated category for political streams and even added warning labels for such content during the 2024 election. This growth in political discussion has also led many well-known streamers, including Asmongold and Hasan Piker, to openly share their own political views on their livestreams.

Twitch has been going through a lot of changes lately, including how the platform is run. There was a big scandal involving some popular streamers using programs to artificially inflate their viewer numbers – so much so that even a Twitch employee suggested others should do the same. In May, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy announced a new policy to fight this practice, limiting how many viewers streamers caught using these programs can display. These changes to rules and content are helping Twitch grow and adapt over time.
