Nintendo is releasing a new game, similar to Zelda, for original Switch owners on May 29th. While the newer Switch 2 has been out for almost a year and Nintendo is focusing on it, they haven’t forgotten about fans still using the original Switch, and continue to release quality games for it.
Nintendo has already had a successful first-party release on the original Switch this year with Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Later this summer, Rhythm Heaven Groove will launch as a Switch exclusive, and it might be the last major first-party game only available on the original console. This likely means fans shouldn’t expect any new Zelda games for that console, though other similar titles may be coming to fill the gap.
Mina the Hollower Looks Like a Classic Zelda Adventure
One of the most anticipated Switch games is Mina the Hollower, a new action-adventure title from the creators of Shovel Knight. It’s designed in a similar style to classic Zelda games like Link’s Awakening on the Game Boy, but with a darker, Bloodborneinspired edge. Given Yacht Club Games’ history, players can expect a polished and engaging experience. Mina the Hollower* will be available on both the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, as well as PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, launching on May 29th.

As a huge Zelda fan, I’ve been absolutely loving Mina the Hollower – it really scratches that same itch! It’s a bit bittersweet though, because it feels like Nintendo is focusing on the new Switch, and those of us still on the original might not get any more new Zelda games. I’m hearing a rumor that Ocarina of Time is getting a remake for the Switch 2 later this year, which is exciting, but doesn’t help us original Switch owners. Still, there’s a glimmer of hope that we might finally see Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD come to the Switch. There are so many of us still playing on the original console, Nintendo would be silly not to consider it!
Even if Nintendo doesn’t release any more new Zelda games for the Switch, fans can still enjoy similar experiences. Games like Mina the Hollower offer a good alternative, and players can revisit beloved classics already on the console, such as Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Echoes of Wisdom, and the remake of Link’s Awakening. The Nintendo Classics service also provides access to a range of older Zelda titles, including the original Link’s Awakening and other Game Boy games like Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, which share a similar feel with Mina the Hollower.

Gamers upgrading to the Switch 2 will find even more adventures similar to Zelda. In addition to the already announced remake of Ocarina of Time, a new game called The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales from Square Enix will be available, offering a similar feel to the Zelda series. Plus, the Switch 2 will be compatible with GameCube games through the Switch Online + Expansion Pack, letting players enjoy The Wind Waker – a title not currently available on the original Switch.
