Xbox Game Pass Adds Co-Op Game with ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ Reviews

Players with Xbox Game Pass can now enjoy Escape Simulator as part of their membership. It’s the fourteenth game added to the service this May, and the eighty-sixth new title available on Xbox Game Pass so far this year.

Developed by Croatian indie studio Pine Studio, known for creating over a dozen games since 2012, Escape Simulator is a first-person puzzle game released in 2021. It was Pine Studio’s tenth completed project. While it eventually became highly regarded as one of the best modern co-op indie games, getting noticed by reviewers was initially difficult, even though early reviews were positive. Despite these common challenges for indie developers, Escape Simulator proved popular with players, earning almost 9,000 “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam. As of mid-2026, estimates suggest the game has sold over 2.7 million copies on Steam alone.

Escape Simulator Buffs Xbox Game Pass Co-Op Catalog

As of May 26th, the cooperative puzzle game Escape Simulator joined Xbox Game Pass, marking its console debut after being available on Windows, macOS, and Linux for almost five years. While it’s unknown if Game Pass was the driving force behind the console release, Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program likely played a role in bringing more indie games to Xbox and Game Pass. Players shouldn’t assume the Series X/S is the final stop, however, as Pine Studio has confirmed they are also working on a PlayStation 5 version, expected in May 2026.

Escape Simulator Supports Cross-Platform Multiplayer Between PC and Consoles

You can play Escape Simulator on Xbox Game Pass, but not with the Essential plan. Microsoft usually keeps indie games on the service for a while, and it’s likely Escape Simulator will be available until at least May 2027. While you can play it by yourself, the game really shines when played with others – it supports co-op with up to ten players! The developers, Pine Studio, have also confirmed that the version for Xbox Series X/S lets you play with people on PCs. With all this, and the great reviews it’s getting, Escape Simulator is a fantastic addition to the Xbox Game Pass library, especially for those looking for fun co-op games.
