One Piece: 7 Strongest Pirate Crews That Disbanded, Ranked

One Piece is a thrilling adventure story centered around pirates. The main character, Monkey D. Luffy, embarks on a journey to find the legendary treasure known as the One Piece, a goal shared by countless others. Currently, the seas are largely controlled by a powerful few, with the Yonko standing as the most dominant forces.

There were once incredibly fearsome pirate crews that have since fallen apart. They used to inspire terror, but because they are no longer active, their threat has faded.

7. Rumbar Pirates

  • Captain: Yorki, Brook
  • Relevant Members: Brook

The Rumbar Pirates weren’t known as one of the most powerful pirate groups, but they’ve played a significant role in the One Piece story so far. This is because of their connection to Laboon, and the fact that their old captain is now part of the Straw Hat crew.

The Rumbar Pirates started their adventures in the West Blue, originally led by a captain named Yorki. Unfortunately, Yorki fell seriously ill while sailing and had to leave his crew to navigate the dangerous Calm Belt. After Yorki’s departure, Brook took over as captain. The Rumbar Pirates ultimately faced a devastating fate in the Grand Line, where everyone except Brook perished. Brook survived thanks to the power of his Devil Fruit, the Yomi Yomi no Mi, but was then stranded in the Florian Triangle for fifty years. Eventually, during the events at Thriller Bark, Brook joined the Straw Hat Pirates and became their musician.

6. Donquixote Pirates

  • Captain: Donquixote Doflamingo
  • Relevant Members: Trebol, Pica, Diamante

Early in the story after the timeskip in One Piece, the Donquixote Pirates were a formidable crew. They were led by Donquixote Doflamingo, a former member of the Shichibukai, and he was by far their strongest member. Doflamingo possessed the incredibly powerful Ito Ito no Mi devil fruit. While the rest of his crew weren’t as strong as him, they were still a significant threat, with key members like Vergo, Pica, Diamante, and Trebol.

The Donquixote family’s reign ended during the battle in Dressrosa when Luffy defeated Doflamingo and liberated the island. After the defeat, most of its members were captured by the Marines. Currently, Doflamingo is held in the deepest level of Impel Down, Level 6.

5. Beast Pirates

  • Captain: Kaido
  • Relevant Members: King, Queen, Jack

The Beast Pirates were a formidable crew that recently fell apart. Led by the former Emperor of the Sea, Kaido, they controlled Wano Country ruthlessly for years. What made them so strong was their unique power: Kaido possessed an incredibly strong Devil Fruit, and many of his top officers – including the All Stars and Tobiroppo – also had powerful Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits.

In the Wano Country arc, Luffy and his crew, along with the samurai and other allies, successfully defeated Kaido at Onigashima. Kaido is believed to be dead. Afterward, the remaining members of the Beast Pirates were arrested, though some, like Ulti and Page One, changed their allegiance.

4. Rocks Pirates

  • Captain: Rocks D. Xebec
  • Relevant Members: Whitebeard, Big Mom, Kaido

I remember hearing stories about the Rocks Pirates – they were considered one of the most powerful crews ever to sail the Grand Line. Their captain, Rocks D. Xebec, was a figure the World Government truly feared. What was really incredible was his crew; it wasn’t just Xebec who was strong. People like Big Mom, Whitebeard, and Kaido were all part of it, even the infamous Shiki! What’s even more amazing is that they seemed to have an unusually high number of pirates with Conqueror’s Haki – so far, we’ve confirmed at least four members who possessed it.

Despite their strength, this group wasn’t united by trust. Many members disliked each other, leading to frequent betrayals. After the battle at God Valley, and the death of Rock D. Xebec, the crew disbanded. Some members vanished completely, while others formed their own pirate groups. Notably, several former Rocks Pirates later rose to become powerful Emperors of the Sea.

3. Whitebeard Pirates

  • Captain: Whitebeard
  • Relevant Members: Portgas D. Ace, Marco, Jozu

For many years, the Whitebeard Pirates were feared throughout the seas. Led by Edward Newgate, known as Whitebeard and considered the strongest pirate alive, the crew was enormous, organized into several divisions. However, they are no longer sailing as an active group.

The Whitebeard Pirates suffered a devastating blow during the Summit War. Both Whitebeard and Ace died, leaving the crew without a leader. While some members remained after the war, they were ultimately defeated by Blackbeard during the timeskip and disbanded.

2. Roger Pirates

  • Captain: Gol D. Roger
  • Relevant Members: Silvers Rayleigh, Scopper Gaban, Kozuki Oden, Crocus

The Roger Pirates were the most famous and successful crew ever, led by the Pirate King, and they achieved what everyone thought was impossible. They were the first to complete the dangerous journey around the Grand Line, uncover the world’s greatest secrets, and ultimately, find the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. Because of these incredible accomplishments, the Roger Pirates were truly unique. However, during their adventures, Roger became seriously ill with an unknown disease.

Once Roger found the One Piece, he broke up his crew and surrendered to the Marines, ultimately leading to his execution. After his death, the crew scattered across the world. Some members, like Rayleigh, continued to be influential – he trained Luffy during the time skip. Others, such as Gaban, pursued different paths, becoming a missionary in Elbaf and now aiding the Straw Hats against Imu. Even Oden, who played a central role in the Wano Country arc, was once a member, and many of them remain important figures in the ongoing story.

1. Joy Boy’s Crew

  • Captain: Joy Boy
  • Relevant Members: Emeth

Right now, Joy Boy remains a mystery, but we do know he was the original pirate. He also had a crew, though most of its members are still unknown. The only one we’ve learned about so far is Emeth, a giant iron man who was a loyal companion to Joy Boy for many years.

Eight hundred years after the events known as the Void Century, the Joy Boy Pirates are no longer sailing. It’s believed they broke up after their captain, Joy Boy, died. While the details of his death are still unknown, it likely involved Imu. We’ll learn more about this famous crew as the story reaches its conclusion.
