A dedicated LEGO enthusiast built an impressive scene from The Lord of the Rings, recreating the battle on the slopes of Amon-Hen as seen near the end of the first Peter Jackson film. The model used more than 4,000 LEGO pieces! Interest in Tolkien’s world has grown steadily within the LEGO hobby since the first Lord of the Rings set came out. Many fans enjoy building their own creations – either by modifying existing sets or designing completely original projects, known as MOCs (My Own Creation).
LEGO builders often repurpose pieces from existing sets to create something new, and The Lord of the Rings is a perfect theme for this kind of creativity. The world of Middle-earth is huge and filled with stories, but LEGO has only released a few sets based on the movies. This limited selection actually encourages fans to build their own creations. For instance, one fan cleverly transformed a LEGO Rivendell set into the city of Osgiliath, using just 30% of the original pieces. So far, there have only been 19 official Lord of the Rings LEGO sets (not counting small promotional sets), leaving many iconic locations like Osgiliath and Amon-Hen still waiting to be built.

A Reddit user named Grinch_AFOLsWelcome recently shared an impressive LEGO creation: a detailed depiction of the battle at Amon-Hen. The model, built from over 4,000 pieces, features minifigures of Frodo, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and various Uruk-hai Orcs. Many fans loved the build and suggested LEGO turn it into an official Lord of the Rings set, though its large size would likely make it quite costly.

I just heard that Grinch_AFOLsWelcome is working on Rebrickable instructions, which is awesome news! That means we might finally be able to build the battle of Amon-Hen with LEGOs. Just a heads-up though – LEGO doesn’t sell the Lord of the Rings minifigs individually. So, if you want to use official minifigs, you’ll have to buy some existing LotR sets that have them. Luckily, all the other bricks should be pretty easy to find on BrickLink.com – they even have the minifigs there, but be warned, they can be a bit pricey!

One fan cleverly transformed LEGO’s Toothless set into Barad-dûr from The Lord of the Rings without needing any additional pieces. While the official Barad-dûr set is impressive, it’s quite pricey at $459.99. The Toothless set, which was used for the conversion, is much more affordable at just $69.99.

While official instructions aren’t available yet, detailed photos of the build are currently available. Notably, the character Boromir is absent from the creation, which aligns with the story – he was searching for Frodo and then defending Merry and Pippin at the time the build represents.
