Retro Sailor Moon Figure to Hit Shelves This Summer

A new Sailor Moon collectible figure is coming soon, showcasing the character’s iconic look from the 1993 Sailor Moon R anime. Since its start as a manga by Naoko Takeuchi in Nakayoshi magazine in 1991, Sailor Moon has been incredibly popular in Japan and around the world thanks to the beloved anime adaptation. Although the series was rebooted in 2013, many fans still love the original, and this new figure, releasing this summer, is expected to bring back a lot of fond memories.

Sailor Moon is incredibly popular in Japan, but it also became a childhood favorite for many in the West. The show first aired on TV in the mid-90s and later on anime blocks like Toonami in the early 2000s. Although the series lasted five seasons, the final season, Sailor Stars, wasn’t released in the US until 2015 because of licensing and censorship concerns – it explored LGBTQ+ themes and issues of gender. Meanwhile, the second season, Sailor Moon R, is still considered a fan favorite, and a new collectible figure celebrates its classic look.

Classic Sailor Moon R Figure Now Up for Preorder

The new S.H. Figuarts Sailor Moon -Crystal Star Compact Edition- figure is already a hit online! This retro-style statue officially goes on sale June 27, 2026. Fans outside of Japan can preorder it on Amazon now, with shipments expected to begin September 18, 2026. It will cost $69.99 and includes four interchangeable hand parts, letting you pose the figure in iconic ways. This cheerful Sailor Moon also comes with Luna, a display base, and the Cutie Moon Rod.

Okay, so season two, Sailor Moon R, is amazing! It starts with the Sailor Guardians trying to enjoy normal life after everything that happened with the Dark Kingdom, but that peace doesn’t last! These new villains, the Hell Tree aliens, show up and start draining energy from people, which brings the Sailor Scouts back into action. Plus, we get introduced to the Black Moon Clan, who are after energy from a future version of Tokyo, and that’s how Usagi meets her future daughter, Chibiusa! There was even a Sailor Moon R movie released way back in ’93, and thankfully, the full, original version finally made its way to American theaters in 2017 – it was such a treat for longtime fans like me!

When Sailor Moon came back to Adult Swim in March, fans were thrilled, but that didn’t last long. Dragon Ball Z Kai replaced it just weeks later. Although the show still has a dedicated following, it hadn’t been on American TV for over two decades, finally reappearing briefly on Toonami Rewind in 2024. It’s currently uncertain if Sailor Moon will be back on US television, as Cartoon Network’s rights to the series expire on May 31, 2026.
