Cardcaptor Sakura Gets Whimsical New Apparel Collab with Converse Tokyo

Converse Tokyo is teaming up with the popular anime Cardcaptor Sakura for a second time! New items will be available in stores and online this week. The first collaboration happened in 2023 to mark the anime’s 25th anniversary, and now fans who missed out can enjoy a new collection. This release celebrates the 30th anniversary of the original Cardcaptor Sakura manga and features designs with Sakura, Tomoyo, and Eriol.

Originally published in Nakayoshi magazine from 1996 to 2000, Cardcaptor Sakura is still a very popular magical girl manga from the 90s. The anime adaptation, which became a huge success around the world in 1998, was known as Cardcaptors in North America when it aired on TV in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, the North American version was significantly edited, with important plot points and scenes removed. Despite this, Cardcaptor Sakura merchandise was widely available in the US, and many people still have fond memories of Sakura’s quest to collect the Clow Cards. Now, fans have a new opportunity to support the original manga thanks to a beautiful new collection from a well-known brand.

Converse Tokyo Reveals New Cardcaptor Sakura Jackets, T-Shirts, and More

Converse Tokyo is releasing a second collection inspired by Cardcaptor Sakura, featuring designs from artists Kosuke Kawamura and Yuta Okuda, and staying true to the original art style by Clamp. The collection, available starting May 29, 2026, includes clothing and accessories decorated with key symbols from the series – cherry blossoms and feathers – alongside Converse’s iconic star. Fans can choose from short- and long-sleeve t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets. There will also be acrylic stands, silkscreen prints, and posters available to order. An art exhibition showcasing original work by Yuta Okuda will be held at the Converse Tokyo store in Miyashita Park. The collection will be available in stores in Ginza, Nagoya, and Umeda starting May 23, with pre-orders opening online and at other locations that same day. Pre-orders and in-store sales will continue until June 14, 2026.

Even though the original Cardcaptor Sakura manga and anime finished in 2000, the series remains popular today, with ongoing projects and new content. A sequel, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, ran from 2016 to 2024 and was adapted into an anime series by Madhouse in 2018. Another sequel was announced in April 2023 to cover the remaining chapters of the manga, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Clamp, the all-female creative team behind the popular manga Cardcaptor Sakura, are considered legends in the industry. Formed in the mid-1980s, the group – consisting of one writer and three artists – has consistently produced successful titles like Magic Knight Rayearth, X, Chobits, xxxHolic, and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. They’ve sold over 100 million copies of their work in total, with Cardcaptor Sakura accounting for more than 20 million copies sold since its debut.

I’m a huge Cardcaptor Sakura fan, and it’s a bit of a bummer that the original series – all 70 episodes – isn’t streaming anywhere popular in North America right now. But don’t worry, you can still get your Sakura fix! The newer series, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, is on Crunchyroll, and so are both Cardcaptor Sakura movies! So there’s still plenty to watch if you’re like me and can’t get enough!
