A dedicated group of modders is building a multiplayer mode for Kingdom Hearts 3, letting players play with up to three friends. The mod currently features four playable characters from the game.
The latest Kingdom Hearts game was a significant step forward for the series. Kingdom Hearts 3, released in 2019, was the first completely new main game in over ten years, following several spin-off titles after Kingdom Hearts 2. KH3 also finished the long-running Dark Seeker Saga, which had been the central storyline of the Kingdom Hearts games since the very first one in 2002. Now, fans are working on a mod for Kingdom Hearts 3 that would add the ability to play with others.
Kingdom Hearts 3 Mod Adds Multiplayer Gameplay
A new mod called KH 3 Re: Multiplayer is bringing cooperative combat to Kingdom Hearts 3. A recent video showcases up to four players—Sora, Riku, Kairi, and Aqua—fighting iconic enemies like Darkside and the Demon Tide in split-screen mode. While a release date hasn’t been announced, and it’s unclear if other characters will be playable, Roxas is already available in the Re Mind DLC for Kingdom Hearts 3.

A new mod for Kingdom Hearts 3 is causing some worry among players about how it might affect the game’s difficulty. Kingdom Hearts 3 was designed as a single-player experience, and letting players control multiple characters could make it too easy. Tests with the mod show that battles are significantly shorter – the Darkside fight takes just over three minutes with three players, and the Demon Tide fight can be completed in under two minutes with four.
The Kingdom Hearts series has explored multiplayer options before, usually as extra features. Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days was the first game to try it, letting players control different members of Organization 13 in various challenges. Birth By Sleep also included multiplayer through the Mirage Arena, where players fought increasingly difficult waves of enemies. The mobile game Kingdom Hearts X even had multiplayer raids for up to six players.

While the developer hasn’t officially revealed any of the worlds players will explore, leaks suggest possibilities like those from Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia, and even Star Wars. Even four years after the initial trailer, Kingdom Hearts 4 remains largely a mystery.
