LEGO has often brought the vast DC universe to life through video games. The latest DC-themed game from LEGO, “Lego DC Super-Villains”, was released in 2018 across various platforms including consoles, PC, and Mac. Now, it appears that the DC franchise is ready for a fresh LEGO video game interpretation after five years.
What’s special about LEGO video game adaptations, including LEGO sets in general, is that they transform grim themes into something cheerful. For instance, a hypothetical LEGO game based on James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie would be both suitable for kids and beneficial for marketing the film. This potential adaptation would also represent the first-ever standalone LEGO video game for Superman. However, considering Batman as DC Comics’ most frequently adapted superhero, such a project could provide an excellent opportunity for LEGO to showcase their creativity by infusing humor into darker subject matter.
The Batman Would Be a Hilariously Dark Take on LEGO Batman

Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” was warmly received by both critics and fans when it came out in 2022. Unlike other adaptations, Reeves’ version of the Caped Crusader emphasized his detective skills. However, the movie had a very dark tone, much darker than previous standalone Batman films directed by Christopher Nolan. Though the film’s underlying theme was hope, its dark atmosphere is what often stands out in reviews at the time and current analyses of it.
Just as any movie adapting a renowned intellectual property often does, The Batman engaged in various promotional partnerships with businesses. Some of these partnerships, such as the meal deal with Little Caesar’s, might strike some as unusual, but Batman and LEGO are a perfect match, much like peanut butter and jelly. It is worth noting that despite LEGO already having its own version of Batman firmly entrenched in public consciousness, they still created new sets based on The Batman. Given that this darker portrayal of Batman was transformed into a physical product, it would only be logical for LEGO to develop a video game featuring this version of the character as well.
How The Batman Could Become a LEGO Batman Video Game

In LEGO form, significant sequences from the movie “The Batman” have been recreated. The largest set is named “Batcave: The Riddler Face-off,” which includes not only minifigures of characters like Batman, the Riddler, Jim Gordon, Selina Kyle (Catwoman), Alfred Pennyworth, and an unmasked Bruce Wayne, but also the actual build. However, the most detailed set is the LEGO version of the Batmobile from “The Batman“. This Batmobile was sold separately, though it can also be found in a set that includes the Penguin and additional accessories. Additionally, there are motorcycles for both Selina Kyle and Batman in a separate set, as well as a Technic version of “The Batman“‘s Batmobile.
When the Hypothetical Game Could Release
It appears that LEGO could easily transition these physical sets into digital form, given they’ve been sold for quite some time now. Representing Robert Pattinson’s Batman interpretation in a LEGO Batman video game, while keeping it suitable for children, would be an inventive move to introduce the character within the LEGO Batman universe. However, with the multiverse concept being extensively used in storytelling for quite some time now, the audience might find such plots repetitive or stale.
Given that Matt Reeves’ trilogy continues with the upcoming film, it’s logical to assume that a LEGO Batman game would align with this release. Previous chances for adapting The Batman into a video game have come and gone, such as the initial film release and the Penguin miniseries from last October. However, due to delays in the next title of the series, fans and critics remain uncertain about its future. Nevertheless, if the next film in the trilogy comes out in October 2027, it would provide an ideal opportunity for LEGO to unveil a fresh take on The Batman video game.
