The skins for characters in Overwatch 2 based on the anime series Gundam Wing have been leaked before its release. This reveals which heroes will get these skins and which mechs they’ll be modeled after. The collaboration between Overwatch 2 and Gundam Wing, drawing inspiration from a renowned anime, is set to launch soon.
In 2023, Overwatch 2 teamed up with One-Punch Man, introducing character skins inspired by the anime series about Saitama, the world’s strongest man. The following year saw the addition of Cowboy Bebop skins, offering cosmetic items based on the classic 90s anime about a group of interstellar bounty hunters. Simultaneously in 2024, players could obtain skins inspired by My Hero Academia, an influential shonen anime that follows Deku and his friends as they combat villains. The latest collaboration with an anime is upcoming, and a recent leak gives us a sneak peek at what’s to come.
On Reddit, user -Elixo- posted pictures showcasing the upcoming skins for Overwatch 2, which are inspired by characters from Gundam Wing. It has been confirmed that Mercy will be getting a skin based on the XXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero, while Soldier: 76 is set to be OZ-00MS Tallgeese. Reaper’s skin will be modeled after the XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe, and Ramattra’s cosmetic will be based on the OZ-13MS Gundam Epyon. Although not yet officially announced, these skins appear to support an earlier leak about Overwatch 2 featuring these four heroes as recipients of the new costumes.
Overwatch 2 Leak Reveals Gundam Wing Skins
The show “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing” is a 49-episode anime series that premiered in 1995. This was the first installment of the “Gundam” series to air on American TV and followed “Mobile Fighter G Gundam.” Set in the aftermath, its narrative revolves around the vengeful schemes of five scientists who were wronged by the OZ organization. They enlist five youths to operate highly advanced Mobile Suits as part of their plot. Notable mechs in this anime include Wing Zero, piloted by Heero Yuy, and Deathscythe, operated by Duo Maxwell. Zechs Merquise primarily pilots Tallgeese, but later commands Epyon, initially operated by Yuy.
The partnership between “Overwatch 2” and “Gundam Wing” is set for release on April 29th. At this time, the cost of the skins, whether bundles will be available, or if additional items like emotes and sprays will be included, has not been disclosed. Blizzard has yet to provide further information, but players can expect to acquire skins such as the Dokiwatch, a new series for “Overwatch 2” characters that transforms Widowmaker, Kiriko, D.Va, and others into magical girls.
