Summary
- Megumi disappoints fans by lacking development and major achievements in Jujutsu Kaisen.
- Megumi’s potential and role in the story were initially greater, but ultimately unfulfilled.
- Jujutsu Kaisen manga, available on Manga Plus, remains popular despite flaws.
The hit anime series “Jujutsu Kaisen” is widely acclaimed for its captivating narratives and thrilling battles. The climactic episodes left viewers on the edge of their seats due to their intensity, yet fans have consistently expressed dissatisfaction with the portrayal of one of the main characters, Megumi. Despite this, “Jujutsu Kaisen” enthusiasts remain unfulfilled by how his character developed.
Megumi Started Bright But Ending Up Disappointing Fans
Megumi was Cut Out From A Good Portion of the Story

Among the primary characters in the anime “Jujutsu Kaisen,” Megumi is included alongside Yuji, Nobara, and Gojo. In terms of character development, it appears that Megumi and Nobara have not fully met expectations within the narrative, whereas Gojo and Yuji have had their standout moments.
It’s been challenging for Megumi fans to accept that the story ended and Megumi didn’t achieve much, as many had high expectations for his character. Fans often mentioned how dynamic Megumi could be at certain points in the story, yet he never quite lived up to those expectations. For instance, some believed Megumi was a character with the potential to match Gojo’s power, even hinted at by the author himself. After all, Megumi possesses the Ten Shadows Technique, which is the only known method for summoning Mahoraga – the creature used by Sukuna to defeat Gojo.
I never aspired for an ordinary existence. The world is populated by many others, not just me. It seems that I’m destined to live not only for myself but also for others.”
Or:
“Living a typical life was never my goal. There are countless individuals in the world other than me. It appears I have been meant to live not just for myself, but for others as well.
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, if Megumi had mastered Mahoraga, he would have been incredibly powerful and among the most potent sorcerers. Regrettably, this never came to pass; he never fully expanded his domain, instead having his body controlled by Sukuna during the Culling Game arc until the climactic battle’s final moments.
As a result, numerous fans have felt let down due to his tale appearing incomplete and hurried. Megumi is often referred to as ‘The One with Potential’ because of his immense untapped abilities, yet the author fails to utilize this potential. Fans can merely wish for a follow-up story that offers more depth to the main characters, but the likelihood of such an outcome seems slim.
Megumi Was Initially Supposed to be Jujutsu Kaisen’s Main Character
This Makes His Development Even More Disappointing

Initially, Megumi’s part in the tale was planned to be more extensive than what we see now. Interestingly, in an early version of Jujutsu Kaisen, it was intended for Megumi, not Yuji, to be the main character. In this early concept, Megumi was meant to be the initial host of Sukuna, which would have significantly increased his role in the story if Gege had chosen to keep it that way.
In spite of these circumstances, Megumi continues to be an exceptionally beloved character within “Jujutsu Kaisen,” standing out significantly, even following her brief hiatus from the manga.
Where To Read Jujutsu Kaisen?
Available on Manga Plus

Even though the Jujutsu Kaisen manga has its imperfections, it remains one of the most cherished and highly-regarded shonen narratives currently available. The manga wrapped up towards the end of 2024, allowing readers to enjoy the entire story on Manga Plus. Before its conclusion, the story was serialized weekly in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Given that Season 3 of the anime is still a ways off, it might be best for fans to catch up with the manga in the meantime.
