Fans were eagerly awaiting details about the God Valley Incident, and now that it’s been revealed, the creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, has introduced an even bigger event from the past: the Esperia Incident, which happened 70 years ago.

God Valley Incident Was Officially Fleshed Out Over Chapters 1160-1166 In The Elbaph Arc

The God Valley Incident is a famously chaotic event in the world of One Piece. It was initially hinted at in chapter 957 of the manga, published in Weekly Shonen Jump on September 19, 2019. Through the character of Sengoku, author Eiichiro Oda first revealed details about the incident, including the defeat of Rocks D. Xebec by Garp and Roger. While that chapter provided the initial information, the full story of the God Valley Incident was later revealed in chapters 1160-1166 of the Elbaph arc.

The incident also resulted in the complete annihilation of the Davy Clan, with only Blackbeard surviving, as revealed in One Piece Chapter 1166, published on November 24, 2025, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 52.

The God Valley Incident was a devastating event that destroyed a kingdom, but it wasn’t the only one. In One Piece chapter 1183, released on May 24, 2026, creator Eiichiro Oda revealed the story of the Esperia Incident. Esperia, Brook’s home in the West Blue, was a prosperous island known for its instrument making and love of music, thriving about 70 years prior to the current One Piece timeline.

Brook wonders if the woman he’s referring to is still alive, calculating she’d be seventy-seven years old now. She used to be a princess from his home country, and he lost touch with her when she journeyed to Marijoa.

In the past, the kingdom of Esperia was ruled by King Reuven and his wife, Queen Candelle. Queen Candelle was a renowned warrior and commanded Esperia’s army. At the same time, Brook led the feared Raider Squad and was considered one of the two most powerful individuals in the land.

The Esperia Incident was a deeply sad event, and while the full story hasn’t been shared yet, its consequences are already known. Brook mentioned in chapter 1173 of Weekly Shonen Jump (released February 9, 2026) that he could never forgive what she did to the man who had helped him so much. It’s also been revealed that the Holy Knights were somehow connected to the Esperia Kingdom, as Brook was already aware of them.

This suggests a strong connection between the two events, particularly because both occurred in the West Blue.

Eiichiro Oda Is Finally Revealing The Events Of Esperia Incident That Separated Brook And Shuri

I’m so hyped about the reveal of the Kingdom of Esperia! It officially showed up in Chapter 1183, but honestly, Oda started laying the groundwork for this story over a year ago during the Elbaph Arc. The ‘Esperia Incident’ is going to be absolutely fascinating – we’re finally going to learn everything about Brook and Shuri’s history, and find out why Candelle and Reuven were so important to Brook. Plus, Oda has confirmed that Nerona Imu and the Holy Knights were heavily involved, so we’re finally getting some much-needed backstory on those mysterious characters! I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.

The biggest mystery we’re hoping to unravel in One Piece is the story behind the Esperia Incident – what happened, how Imu completely destroyed it, and why. These answers will gradually be revealed as the story progresses.
