
The Pokémon Company has created 85 billion Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) cards by March 2026. The TCG first launched in Japan in 1996, but its popularity really took off in October 2024 with the release of TCG Pocket, a free-to-play mobile game. This app introduced a new wave of players to the physical trading card game, causing a significant increase in its popularity.
Pokemon Surpasses 85 Billion Trading Cards Made
With the 30th anniversary of Pokemon coming up in 2026, The Pokemon Company International has shared some impressive numbers about its video games and trading cards. They’ve shipped over 515 million video games and produced a staggering 85 billion trading cards since the franchise began. To highlight just how much growth there’s been, Joe Merrick, who runs the popular Pokemon wiki Serebii, says that nearly 12% of all Pokemon trading cards were printed in the last financial year – that’s around 10 billion cards between April 2025 and March 2026.
