When Pokemon Pokopia launched in March, it quickly became incredibly popular with Nintendo Switch 2 owners and Pokemon fans. To keep players engaged, the game will receive downloadable content (DLC) over the next year. With the next major expansion, Pokemon Winds and Waves, planned for late 2027, this Pokopia DLC is seen as a way to bridge the gap and keep excitement high.
It’s important to remember that rumors and leaks are only as good as where they come from, and this information originates from a very reliable source: Game Freak themselves. The ‘Teraleak 2’ contained documents from 2024 detailing plans for all the Pokemon games currently in development, including Pokopia, and outlined both the initial launch content and future downloadable content. While some details may have shifted since those documents were created, the current version of the game closely matches them, meaning fans can expect to learn more about these areas in the near future.
New DLC Locations in Pokopia
- A Burning Forest
- A Flooded City
- A Dead Volcanic Island
- A Decaying Tower
- A Giant Crater
Leaks also suggest these will be released one at a time.
New leaks suggest that the game Pokopia will feature five new areas inspired by the original Kanto region. These include an ash-covered, perpetually burning forest (based on Viridian City and Forest), a treasure-filled sunken city (based on Cerulean City), a desolate volcanic island (based on Cinnabar Island), a crumbling, sky-high tower (based on Lavender Town), and a massive, incredibly deep crater near the Celadon area. These locations join existing areas in Pokopia which are already inspired by Kanto cities like Fuchsia, Vermillion, Pewter, and Saffron.

Adding new areas and environments is just one piece of what’s likely coming. Though not officially confirmed yet, players of Pokopia might see hints about what happens after the main story, more story content, new Pokémon (including those from the original Kanto region and beyond), fresh gameplay features, and various improvements and cosmetic items. While new Pokémon are expected to be a major addition, the specifics remain unknown. Ultimately, it feels like only a matter of time before this Pokopia downloadable content is officially revealed.
Don’t mistake this for the regular, temporary events happening in Pokopia! Those events, like the current Sableye’s Gem Hunt (running until May 4th), offer players new challenges and Pokémon for a limited time. We’ve already seen events like More Spores for Hoppip, an April Fools’ Day Copycat Challenge, and Bullbasaur’s Jump Rope Contest, and you can expect many more throughout this year and next, even when new areas are added to the game.

At least it will give us something to do in the meantime. While there’s a lot of excitement for Generation 10, the way Pokemon Winds and Waves is being released means fans are waiting longer for a core Pokemon game than ever before. The downloadable content for Pokopia is coming out at just the right time to keep players engaged throughout 2026 and into early 2027.
