Anime Characters Who Need Their Own Spinoffs

Anime shows usually have many characters, but the story almost always centers around the main character – and for good reason! They’re a key part of the series. Because of this, many cool supporting characters don’t get as much time on screen as they deserve.

Naturally, this upset a lot of fans, but they had no other option than to accept the harsh reality. Over time, some authors actually put the best characters in spin-offs, which is enough to satisfy the fans. But they are still unable to cover all of them.

7. Gol D. Roger

  • Anime: One Piece

With so many characters in a series as large as One Piece, deciding who deserves their own spin-off is incredibly difficult. But if you set aside personal preferences, the most logical choice would be Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King.

Roger is a fascinating character who, while sharing some traits with Luffy, is truly unique. He was an incredibly powerful fighter, capable of battling on equal footing with legends like Whitebeard, Garp, and Shiki. He’s a great candidate for a spinoff story because there’s still so much mystery surrounding his past. A new series could explore his beginnings as a pirate and reveal details about his illness.

6. Minato Namikaze

  • Anime: Naruto

I remember hearing stories about Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage. He was incredibly gifted, easily one of the strongest ninjas around. From what I understand, he was a natural at the Academy, breaking records left and right. He eventually trained under Jiraiya, who really helped him unlock his full potential and become the ninja everyone knew him as.

Minato deserves his own series because there’s so much of his story that hasn’t been explored. The recent one-shot comic showing the origins of the Rasengan was a great glimpse, but a full spin-off would allow fans to really delve into his life and learn much more about his past.

5. Vegeta

  • Anime: Dragon Ball Z

Vegeta is a hugely popular anime character, and for good reason. Fans love watching his incredible journey from ruthless villain to devoted husband and father, which has played a big part in making him so well-known.

Vegeta is a fantastic character, but he often lives in Goku’s shadow, even though he definitely has his own shining moments. Many fans think Vegeta deserves his own separate series to really explore his story.

4. L Lawliet

  • Anime: Death Note

L Lawliet was the opposite of Yagami Light. As a world-famous detective, L’s job was to prevent Light from killing anyone he chose. L believed that such power would corrupt anyone, even someone with good intentions, and that’s exactly what happened – Light started eliminating anyone who stood in his way.

L’s death was a heartbreaking moment for fans, who felt he deserved to be featured more in the series. A spin-off focusing on his past – exploring his early life and famous cases – would be a great way to address this. While authors sometimes worry about the success of spin-offs, L is such a popular character that a spin-off featuring him would almost certainly be a hit, selling hundreds of thousands of copies.

3. Escanor

  • Anime: Seven Deadly Sins

Escanor is a remarkably powerful side character who, for much of the story, actually stands out more than the main hero. As one of the famed Seven Deadly Sins, he was a highly skilled fighter, and his very name commanded respect. His special power, called “Sunshine,” made him progressively stronger as the day went on.

I always felt Escanor had a really compelling story, far more developed than most of the supporting characters. Plus, his unique abilities made his fights incredibly exciting to watch. It’s clear to me he had everything it takes to carry a series as the main character. If the author, Nakaba Suzuki, ever decided to create a spin-off, Escanor would be the perfect choice, in my opinion.

2. Bucciarati

  • Anime: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is famous for its amazing characters, and that’s all thanks to creator Hirohiko Araki. He’s developed so many memorable people throughout the series that it’s hard to choose just one as the best. But if we had to, Bruno Bucciarati would be the top pick.

Bruno Bucciarati commanded a team within the Passione organization, but he stood out from typical gangsters because ordinary people genuinely liked and respected him. While his Stand, Sticky Fingers, wasn’t inherently the most powerful, his clever use of it made it incredibly effective. A separate story focusing on Bruno would allow fans to learn more about him and likely make him even more popular.

1. Sukuna

  • Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen

Sukuna stands out from the other characters because he’s a villain, not a hero. Despite this, a spin-off focusing on him could still be interesting. Because he lived for centuries before the events of Jujutsu Kaisen, we only know a little about his past.

It would be incredible to see a story set in Japan’s Heian period, showing Sukuna battling other powerful sorcerers from that time – and it would definitely be a huge success with fans.
