The anime series Attack on Titan ended on November 4, 2023, with its fourth and final season. The season resolved all the main storylines and showed the tragic fate of the character Eren. Due to the series’ popularity, a compilation movie titled Attack on Titan: The Last Attack was released and proved to be popular with fans in Japan and around the world.
Good news for fans of the Attack on Titan movie and series! The movie will be back in North American theaters for one day only on May 18, 2026. This re-release is a great way to rekindle excitement for the franchise as it heads into its later stages.
Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK Will Hit North American Theatres For A Single Day, On May 18, 2026
I remember when Attack on Titan first came out – it was all the work of a single creator, Hajime Isayama. It began as a serialized manga in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine way back in 2009, and after a long run, finally finished with chapter 139 in 2020. The story was truly amazing, and even now, it continues to be a huge success, selling incredibly well in Japan and around the world.
Given the massive popularity of the Attack on Titan manga, it’s no surprise the anime adaptation also became a huge success. The anime series began in 2013 with its first season and concluded in 2023 with Season 4. However, the story wasn’t entirely finished, as the series returned with a new animated movie that recompiled existing arcs. This type of recap movie is common for popular anime, so it was a natural continuation for Attack on Titan.
Originally released in Japan in 2023, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack is returning to select theaters in North America – including the United States and Canada – on May 18, 2026. This isn’t a traditional re-release, however; the movie will only be shown for a single day. Given the popularity of Attack on Titan, fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets ahead of time to ensure they don’t miss out.
Latest Attack on Titan Movie Will Return With A 4K Release
Here’s some exciting news: Crunchyroll has announced a re-release of the film in a brand new 4K version! It will be shown in many theaters, so keep an eye on AMC, Cineplex, Fandango, and Galaxy Theaters for ticket information.
With the movie’s release, fans will be able to see a brand new post-credits scene. This scene features Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and the others living as ordinary people in the present day, free from the danger of the Titans. It’s a welcome and uplifting addition, particularly after the often-dark and emotional conclusion of the original anime.

Despite The New Movie Release, The Future of Attack on Titan Is Uncertain
Fans are excited that Attack on Titan: The Last Attack is coming back to cinemas, now in 4K! However, while the movie is popular, it doesn’t actually include much new footage – almost everything in it has already been seen in the original animated series.
Fans are eager for more content, like a new manga or anime series from Studio MAPPA. Unfortunately, neither of those options are currently in the works. Hajime Isayama, the creator, has stated he doesn’t intend to create more manga, and without new source material, any anime would just be made up of non-canon content.
Hajime Isayama feels he put his heart and soul into Attack on Titan, and worries that any future work might feel too similar and repetitive as a result.
Fans of Attack on Titan aren’t getting any new episodes, but Kyouji Asano, the animation director from WIT Studio, has been sharing new artwork each month. He drew Eren in April, and in May, fans were hoping for a picture of Mikasa or Levi. With that, it seems Attack on Titan has officially come to an end.
