When you’re looking through games on Steam, you occasionally stumble across one with a tag that makes you think, “Wait, how is that even possible?” That’s exactly how I felt when I saw Slay the Spire 2 was labeled as a co-op game – I was really curious to know how that would work!
Multiplayer actually works really well with how Slay the Spire 2 is played. The core gameplay remains largely the same – battles feel similar to the single-player experience. Each player builds and manages their own unique deck, chooses characters and Ancients, and interacts with rewards and merchants independently. Enemies attack both players at the same time, keeping the familiar structure. The main addition is the need for teamwork, as players play cards simultaneously, creating chances for powerful combinations. There are even some cards you can only find in multiplayer!
Even though it’s still being developed, Slay the Spire 2 is already very polished and comes highly recommended, especially for those who enjoyed the first game or are fans of deck-building games in general. The addition of co-op mode enhances the already strong single-player experience, making both modes compelling features.
Reanimal

From the creators of the Little Nightmares games comes Reanimal, a game that feels like a follow-up, but with a key difference: it’s designed for two players. While Little Nightmares 2 had two main characters but wasn’t multiplayer, Reanimal truly focuses on teamwork. The story centers around two siblings, and working together is essential to progress, making co-op a core part of the experience.
If you love Little Nightmares, you’ll likely enjoy Reanimal, but be prepared for a different experience. While Little Nightmares focused on puzzles and gameplay, Reanimal, coming in 2026, emphasizes stunning visuals, atmosphere, and world-building. This isn’t a drawback – it’s simply a shift in focus that might not appeal to everyone. That said, Reanimal delivers excellent presentation, design, tone, and creates a truly immersive horror adventure.
The game Reanimal can be completed in about 4 to 5 hours, making it a fairly short experience. Whether that’s worth the $40 price tag is a personal decision, but players should know what to expect in terms of length.
Arc Raiders

I’m adding Arc Raiders to the list because a lot of people are playing it and it’s fun with friends. Just be aware that it’s a team shooter where you compete against other players, not a traditional game where you work together against computer enemies.
Since its release in October 2025, Arc Raiders has quickly become a popular game and consistently attracts a large number of players on Steam. Despite not being free-to-play, it’s remained successful for a surprisingly long time, and all signs point to it being a mainstay of the multiplayer gaming community for years to come.
Arc Raiders blends player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) gameplay, meaning you’ll need to be prepared for both to fully enjoy the experience. There’s no dedicated co-op mode, so you can’t simply play through the game with friends focusing only on fighting AI enemies. If that’s what you’re looking for, Arc Raiders might not be the right fit. However, you can team up with friends to form a squad and tackle both AI enemies and other players together. The game even features a mode where a single player can challenge a team of players.
Peak

Among Steam’s top online co-op games of 2025, Peak challenges you and up to three friends to climb a mountain that’s different every day. It’s a unique live-service game that keeps players coming back, combining exploration, survival, and a lighthearted, funny experience thanks to its art style and often comical ways characters can fail.
The game stays engaging for a long time because the map changes daily, and there are plenty of different items to discover. Playing with others is the main focus, though you can still enjoy playing alone.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Beat ’em up games have been making a comeback lately, with some really great titles appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers. TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge by Tribute Games is probably the most popular of the last ten years, and I highly recommend it to everyone. In 2025, the same developer released Marvel Cosmic Invasion, which features an even larger selection of characters and supports up to four players online or locally. While Shredder’s Revenge is perhaps the better game overall, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is still excellent and a lot of fun, especially for comic book fans or anyone who enjoys a classic brawl.
Okay, so this game is seriously impressive. The animation is wild, it looks amazing, and the fighting is really flexible – it all just comes together to make something special. I can definitely see myself sinking a lot of hours into it, especially because each character feels totally unique. The story isn’t super long – maybe a couple of hours – but I’ll want to play through it again and again with different heroes. And honestly? It’s awesome on your own, but playing with friends is where it really shines. We were all picking characters that covered each other’s weaknesses, and it was just a blast. Seriously fun stuff!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate

Recently, we’ve seen some excellent TMNT cooperative games, including Shredder’s Revenge. While Splintered Fate might not be as well-known, it’s a great game that both adds to the Turtles’ history in video games and stands out within the action roguelike genre. The best way to describe it is like Hades, but with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. While that might sound like it’s simply copying a successful formula, there’s nothing wrong with building upon one of the best games of the last ten years. Despite the similarities, Splintered Fate still truly feels like a TMNT game, and playing with friends makes it even better.
Whether playing with friends locally or online, teams of four can embark on a quest to rescue Splinter. This adventure requires multiple playthroughs to collect Dragon Coins, which are used to unlock permanent character improvements. Splintered Fate plays like a classic isometric beat ’em up: players have a standard attack, a dodge, and two special abilities that can be changed during a run. After clearing each area, everyone gets to choose a reward – a new ability, a temporary power-up, coins for permanent upgrades, or scrap to use during the current run. It’s straightforward but well-made, and each character feels distinct and useful.
Elden Ring Nightreign

Nightreign is an unusual game – a cooperative, roguelike battle royale set in the Elden Ring universe, despite not being a game anyone specifically requested. FromSoftware has built a reputation for quality, so many were willing to give it a chance. However, if the game’s concept doesn’t appeal to you, it’s unlikely you’ll enjoy it. Nightreign delivers exactly what it promises – a unique experience, and players shouldn’t expect it to play like a traditional Elden Ring game.
Teams of three players enter a fixed game world and try to survive for three days, battling enemies and collecting items. They’ll face smaller challenges along the way, and on the final night, they must defeat one of eight powerful bosses called the Nightlords. These Nightlords are considered some of the best boss battles FromSoftware has ever created, but they’re designed for groups, making it very difficult to play alone, even though it is possible. After defeating all eight bosses, the cycle repeats.
Schedule 1

TVGS’s Schedule 1 unexpectedly became a huge hit on Steam, quickly rising to the top of the best-selling charts and becoming one of the biggest surprises of 2025. It’s currently still in early access, meaning players should expect some unfinished features and potential bugs. However, even now, there’s plenty to do, and the developers have announced an exciting plan for future updates.
You can enjoy Schedule 1 on your own, but it also lets up to four players team up to build a criminal empire. While the multiplayer isn’t perfect and could use some improvements, it’s generally well-done and doesn’t have many frustrating issues.
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando

I’m not sure Toxic Commando will stay on this list for long, but it’s worth mentioning now. If you like games like Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood, or World War Z, you’ll probably enjoy Toxic Commando. Despite the name, it’s a pretty straightforward co-op shooter where you and up to three friends fight your way through hordes of zombies – lots and lots of zombies!
While Toxic Commando shares similarities with other games in the genre, it’s not a simple clone. It stands out with its open world, use of vehicles, and focus on mercenaries. It successfully delivers a familiar experience, and though its long-term replay value is uncertain, it’s definitely worth playing through the campaign at least once.
