New players in NTE will get a free S-Class character after rolling 50 times on the Standard Banner. This allows them to pick the S-Class character they want to add to their team.
You can choose from Sakiri, Baicang, Hathor, Fadia, Daffodil, and Jiuyuan. If you’re having trouble deciding which of these powerful characters is right for you, this guide will help by outlining the strengths and weaknesses of each one. Here’s a closer look.

Important tip for free-to-play players: Don’t decide on a specific S-Class character right away. First, try getting one normally through the Standard Banner. This prevents you from accidentally getting the same S-Class character twice.
It’s best not to use Annulith on the Standard Banner. You’ll get plenty of Fabricated Dice just by playing, and you can also buy more with Lost Pieces and Warp Pieces, which you earn from pulling on the Limited Banners.
Sakiri
Sakiri is generally considered the best free Standard S-Class character you can get. She’s incredibly versatile and works well with almost any team. Her ultimate ability boosts the entire team, no matter what their type is, and her skills make it easy to gather and defeat large groups of enemies – similar to how Kazuha or Sucrose work in Genshin Impact.
Sakiri and Nanally work incredibly well together, making them a powerful combination for a top-level Scorch team. If you’re planning to get Nanally from the current limited-time banner, Sakiri is a great character to add to your team alongside her.
Hathor
If you don’t have or need Sakiri, Hathor is the next best option for an S-Class Standard character in NTE. She’s a support damage dealer (Sub-DPS) who’s great at hitting multiple enemies at once (AoE damage). Her strongest ability is her Ultimate, so she works best when paired with a strong main damage dealer to cover her weaker moments.
Hathor performs best with teams focused on applying ‘Charge,’ which maximizes her ability to keep the ‘Remora’ effect active on opponents. She works particularly well alongside Chiz, Nanally, and the Appraiser version of Zero.
Daffodil
Daffodil shares a lot of similarities with Hathor as a powerful, standard S-Class character. She’s a top-tier Chaos Sub-DPS who excels at creating powerful chain reactions with her Entry Attacks. She’s also the most effective character for breaking enemy defenses in NTE, making her particularly useful in boss battles.
Honestly, she’s amazing! Not only is she powerful, but because of her Chaos alignment, she can set off the Discord reaction – that Psyche, Chaos, and Incantation combo – which makes her a total powerhouse against bosses in NTE. I’ve had the best luck teaming her up with Nanally, Baicang, Sakiri, Haniel, and Fadia. They just work so well together!
Jiuyuan
If you’ve already established the main members of your team and just need a strong supporting character, Jiuyuan is a great pick. She provides support from off-field and can also deal significant burst damage. She works particularly well in teams built around the Blossom mechanic, and since she pairs well with the player character (Esper Zero), she’s a fantastic choice for players who aren’t spending money on the game.
She excels in teams focused on Charged attacks because her abilities create many Blossoms, making it simple to activate those attacks.
Baicang
Baicang is a strong damage dealer for Scorch teams, but he’s tricky to learn, especially for beginners. While he can perform as well as top-tier characters, it takes time and effort to master his abilities and timing. If you’re looking for a simple character to pick up and play, Baicang might not be the best option.
Fadia
Fadia’s special ability is taking damage that would normally affect her teammates, protecting them but meaning she needs a lot of healing to stay strong. Like Jiuyuan, she supports the team from the sidelines, but Fadia requires more consistent attention to work well. Because she doesn’t fit into many team compositions, she’s generally the least preferred option.
