The CEO of IO Interactive recently reaffirmed the studio’s commitment to bringing the game 007 First Light to the Nintendo Switch 2. Originally announced during the April 2025 Nintendo Direct, the port hasn’t had many public updates over the past year, but development appears to be progressing smoothly.
As a huge James Bond fan, I’m so excited about 007 First Light! It’s coming out on May 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is an origin story, letting you play as a 26-year-old Bond just starting out and earning his 00 status. From what I’ve seen, the gameplay looks amazing – it’s blending the stealthy, social gameplay of Hitman with the exciting action sequences of Uncharted, plus some completely new ideas that should make it a really fresh action-adventure experience.
IO Interactive CEO Reiterates 007 First Light is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 This Year
IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak recently discussed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light with The Game Business. While the game was originally scheduled to launch on Switch 2 alongside the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S versions on May 27th, IO Interactive announced last month that the Switch 2 port would now be released in the summer of 2026.

When The Game Business inquired about whether the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light was facing similar problems to the indefinitely delayed Borderlands 4 Switch 2 port, Hakan Abrak responded with the following statement:
The game is being developed for the Switch 2, and we’re committed to delivering the best possible experience. We need a little more time to polish it and ensure it meets our standards – we’re now aiming for a late summer release. We’re dedicated to getting it right, as James Bond has a long history with Nintendo. As CEO, I’m personally making sure this version is fantastic.
IO Interactive’s CEO has made a promising statement for those who own a Nintendo Switch 2. Although we don’t have a firm release date yet for 007 First Light, it sounds like the Switch 2 version won’t be a quickly made, low-quality port. Players can expect a fully-featured experience when it eventually arrives.
Okay, so it’s looking like we might finally get 007 First Light on the Switch 2 around late summer – probably August or September. Right now, the Switch 2’s release schedule is pretty empty for those months. Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 is coming out on August 27th, but that’s about it. Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 players have Phantom Blade Zero and Marvel’s Wolverine to look forward to in September, which is a bit of a bummer for us Switch fans waiting on something big!

Hakan Abrak recently discussed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light with The Game Business and also talked about a potential sequel. He mentioned that development is going well even after Amazon acquired the rights to James Bond, and if First Light is successful and popular with players, a follow-up game could happen.
