
Ubisoft recently shared details about the combat system in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and explained how it differs from the original game. For a long time, rumors have circulated about this modernized version of the 2013 title, and Ubisoft has now officially revealed it, detailing the significant changes made over the past 13 years.
One of the biggest draws of this remake for fans will likely be its updated graphics, powered by the newest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine. Beyond the visuals, many aspects of the original game have been improved, including the user interface, stealth mechanics, parkour movement, and weather effects. Missions are also designed to be more open-ended, similar to the style seen in Assassin’s Creed Unity. Players can look forward to new story content and deeper character development for figures like Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Finally, Ubisoft has announced that combat will be more challenging thanks to smarter enemy AI.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Introduces Adaptive Enemies
I was really excited to read the latest blog post about the combat in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced! It sounds like they’ve totally revamped how fighting works compared to the original game. While the Hidden Blade is getting some changes too, the creative director, Paul Fu, talked about how they’re making enemies much smarter. Basically, they’ll learn from how you play! If you rely on parrying all the time, they’ll start using attacks you can’t parry to force you to mix things up. And if you’re constantly going on the offensive – especially if you spam kicks – they’ll start dodging more. The idea is to make combat more dynamic, so you can’t just stick to one strategy. You’ll need to vary your attacks, combos, and use both offense and defense to keep them guessing and stay ahead!

In addition to enemies that learn and adapt, the game will feature tougher enemy types – Brutes, Captains, and Demolitionists – who present a greater challenge than regular soldiers. These enemies won’t fall for simple attack chains and are harder to block, often using unblockable moves. Players will need to use tools like the flintlock pistol to break through their defenses or the rope dart to pull them in for attacks.
The remake isn’t just improving combat; stealth is getting a significant update too. Ubisoft has confirmed that it’s building the stealth and parkour systems based on those from Shadows, meaning movement will be much more fluid and open than before. Players will have more control over Edward’s movements with new features like directional inputs and side exits, and they’ll also have more options for staying hidden and interacting with the environment. Plus, getting spotted during Tailing or Eavesdropping missions won’t automatically fail them anymore.
