I just read chapter 34 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, which came out today, May 20, 2026, in the latest issue of V-Jump. It kicks off a new story arc and focuses on what happened after the fight with Mamushi in Konoha. Everyone was worried about potential casualties, especially for Sarada and Inojin, given how dangerous things got. Luckily, both of them made it through with only minor injuries – it was a relief to see!
The chapter ended on a surprisingly somber note with the death of Bug, a long-established and seemingly harmless character, right before Boruto’s eyes. This tragic event signals a much darker direction for the story’s current arc, which has now begun.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 Officially Kills Off An Innocent Character Named Bug
The Boruto: Two Blue Vortex storyline currently focuses on the world’s shinobi battling the Shinju – powerful beings evolved from the Ten Tails and created using the DNA of many different people. After the defeat of Shinju Matsuri and Shinju Ryu, Mamushi emerged as the next major antagonist. He recently attacked Konoha with the goal of absorbing Eida’s power. In the latest chapter, released on April 20, 2026, Mamushi was defeated by Inojin Yamanaka. Inojin used a Mind-body Swap technique to force Mamushi to direct his deadly Killing Intent towards Daemon, ultimately leading to Mamushi’s destruction by Reflection.
There’s no need for explanations. I’m prepared to do what needs to be done. — Inojin Yamanaka, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #33
The latest chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex (Chapter 34, in V-Jump Issue 7) showed Boruto Uzumaki possessing a special item called the Thorn Soul Bulb of Mamushi. This item can free individuals who were turned into trees by the Shinju. Boruto’s goal was to use it to free Bug from the Ten-Tails’ dimension. However, upon arriving, he was attacked by Code, who tried to kill him. Boruto managed to survive thanks to his strength and the newly awakened Byakugan, but the Thorn Soul Bulb began to fall apart immediately after Code disappeared.
Chapter 34 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex reveals that Thorn Soul Bulbs don’t last forever – they decay. If someone trapped inside isn’t returned to the tree quickly, the bulb breaks down and they die instantly, which is a surprisingly grim development. This chapter officially shows the death of Bug, a former subordinate of the Kara organization who was essentially a slave. Despite years of mistreatment and ultimately being used to create Mamushi, Bug perished and dissolved before Boruto’s eyes, and there was nothing Boruto could do to help.
Boruto Part 2 Continues To Get Darker With More Character Deaths
The new series, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, is noticeably more serious and intense than the original Boruto. It’s already featured several character deaths, with more potentially on the way. Many fans were particularly surprised by Bug’s death in Chapter 34, as they anticipated he would be saved, especially since he wasn’t portrayed as a villain.
Don’t worry. He wasn’t a good person. Remember this moment… remember what it looks like when someone loses their spirit and hope. — Kashin Koji to Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #34
Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto are making it clear that Boruto won’t be a typical, cheerful story. This was especially evident in the Land of Wind arc when they killed Yodo, a significant side character. Yodo’s death was even more shocking than Bug’s because she was a young, next-generation character – a child. Killing off a character so young and in such a painful way really surprised fans and proves that Boruto is maintaining a darker tone as the story progresses.
It’s particularly unsettling in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex that several characters, even some of the most important ones, seem destined to die. Considering the recent history of the series’ creators, Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto, anyone could be killed off at any moment.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex’s New Arc Sets Up Bigger Death Flags For Konoha Shinobi
Okay, so Chapter 34 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex just dropped, and wow, things are getting intense! They actually killed off Bug, which was shocking, but even more worrying, it feels like a ton of major characters are being set up for potential deaths. I’m talking Code, Sarada, Boruto, and even Himawari! Honestly, Code feels like he’s living on borrowed time – the artist, Mikio Ikemoto, even hinted he shouldn’t have made it this far! Now that he’s front and center in this new arc that officially kicked off on May 20th, 2026, I’m really bracing myself for something bad to happen to him. It’s like the series is practically screaming that he’s in serious danger!
Kashin Koji plans to kidnap Sarada and use her as leverage against you. Realizing he can’t win a direct fight, he intends to take Sarada to the Shinju, hoping you’ll come to rescue her. This sets up a dangerous situation for both Sarada and Boruto, foreshadowing potential threats in chapter 34 of the Two Blue Vortex arc.
The latest chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex revealed Code’s plan to kidnap Sarada Uchiha, using her to lure out and kill Boruto. This puts both Boruto and Sarada in serious danger. Additionally, it’s been shown that Himawari could be targeted by Jura, and Kashin Koji has foreseen this possibility, meaning she remains at risk.
Kashin Koji vows to alter events so that Eida and Himawari will survive. — Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #27
While there’s hope for characters to be saved through changes to the timeline, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has already proven it’s willing to kill off important characters. This means no one is truly safe, and we should be prepared for potential losses. The upcoming chapters promise to be crucial, especially for those who seem destined to die. We’re eagerly anticipating the next developments when Shinju Hidari and Code make their move on June 20, 2026.
