After a gap of eight years, a new Carmageddon game is here! Developer 34BigThings just announced Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, the latest installment in this long-running series that first launched 28 years ago.
The announcement came as part of Thursday’s PC Gaming Show.
The developer describes Carmageddon: Rogue Shift as a mix of the classic game’s violent car crashes, updated with the replayability of roguelite games and smooth, arcade-style driving.
Game director Giuseppe Enrico Franchi explained that the new installment will offer a unique experience for fans of the series and racing games alike. He described Carmageddon as a game where players can freely explore, experiment with different approaches, and cause mayhem – running over opponents and painting the streets red. The goal is to let players modify their vehicles, adapt to challenges, and enjoy unleashing chaos on zombie hordes while driving powerful, destructive cars.
Rogue Shift will appeal to both longtime fans of the original series and newcomers alike, offering a fresh, exciting take on a beloved classic.
Although we don’t know exactly when it will launch, the game is confirmed to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Players with a GeForce NOW subscription will also be able to play it.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift features a campaign where each playthrough is different. Players navigate branching maps filled with unpredictable challenges and can permanently upgrade their abilities between attempts. You’ll have access to 15 customizable vehicles – everything from tanks to classic hot rods – and can equip them with over 80 perks across 13 different weapon types.
The game also features changing weather and a day-night cycle that affect enemy encounters and gameplay. You’ll also face challenging boss battles and discover even more exciting elements.
I’m still waiting for the official release date, but the developers said they’ll announce everything – including when we can finally play – on the game’s website. I’ll be checking there regularly for updates!
