Since launching in March, Crimson Desert has received exceptional support from Pearl Abyss, with regular updates and improvements. Players have benefited from frequent bug fixes, quality-of-life changes, and new content, delivered at a faster pace than is typical for most game developers.
Although Crimson Desert received some uncertain reactions before its March 19th release, it has become a huge hit for Pearl Abyss. Strong player recommendations played a big part in the game’s growing popularity. Pearl Abyss also actively listened to player feedback and used it to constantly improve the game, even making significant changes to features and gameplay. Unlike most developers who share future plans, Pearl Abyss has intentionally avoided doing so, and for a particular reason.
Crimson Desert Emphasizes Player First Updates
Will Powers, Head of Publishing at Pearl Abyss, discussed the game’s positive performance and the company’s method for ongoing updates. Unlike many game developers who announce downloadable content or future plans right away, Pearl Abyss deliberately chose not to. Instead of committing to specific dates or guessing what players would enjoy, the team decided to listen to player feedback and use it to guide post-launch development. This approach resulted in key improvements, such as changes to the control system in Crimson Desert.
Listening to player feedback was only one piece of the puzzle. The development team also focused on consistently updating and improving the game, while closely watching how players were using it – especially the creative strategies and new techniques they discovered. As one developer explained, great ideas can come from anyone, and the studio is always open to suggestions.
Many of the game’s best features were added thanks to player feedback. For example, difficulty settings were introduced after players on Reddit suggested they’d be useful. One post that really stood out came from a 73-year-old player who loved the game but struggled with certain parts due to vision problems, slower reflexes, and arthritis in their hands.

A significant debate arose among players who fully explored the game’s massive world. While clearing the map brought a sense of peace by stopping enemy spawns, it also made it difficult to complete quests, gain experience, and fully develop all characters. To address this, Pearl Abyss introduced a “Re-blockade” feature in Crimson Desert, letting players control whether and how often enemies respawn. Given the game’s ongoing success, Pearl Abyss seems committed to providing frequent updates, even without announcing them beforehand.
