One 360 Franchise is Completely Dominating Xbox’s New Backward Compatibility Leaderboard

Xbox is exploring adding even more older games to its current consoles, and is asking players what titles they’d like to see supported. Previously, Xbox successfully brought games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 to the Xbox One, and those games still work on the newer Xbox Series X/S.

Xbox stopped adding older games to its backward compatibility program in 2021, disappointing many fans. But to celebrate 25 years of Xbox, the company is bringing the program back! They’ve asked fans to vote for the games they want most, and after counting thousands of votes, a top 10 list has emerged. If you’re still using an Xbox One or considering upgrading, keep in mind that this program is designed for Xbox Series X/S consoles and the new Project Helix console.

Beyond the Transformers games, the top 10 most wanted games also feature Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Jet Set Radio Future. Remarkably, eight out of the ten games are based on existing licenses, and six of those eight are Transformers titles. The majority of these games were originally released on the Xbox 360, with The Simpsons: Hit & Run and Jet Set Radio Future being the only ones that first appeared on the original Xbox.

It’s important to remember that there’s no promise any of these games will become playable on older Xbox consoles through the backward compatibility program. Plus, some of these titles might get completely rebuilt or updated instead. For example, many fans want a new version of Simpsons: Hit & Run, so Xbox might choose to remake it rather than simply making the original playable on newer consoles, as a remake could be more profitable.

Getting some games to work on older Xbox consoles is proving tricky, mainly because of licensing problems. For instance, while Activision used to publish Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, they don’t own the rights to the game anymore. Similarly, Need for Speed: Most Wanted features a lot of licensed music. It’s still great to see which games Xbox players are hoping for, and it will be interesting to see if the fan voting influences which titles get added next.
