The popular series Critical Role has given us a closer look at its upcoming campaign, revealing some exciting details about Campaign 4. Unlike their new tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) system, Daggerheart, they will be using an updated version of the 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons rules from 2024 for this campaign.
In a surprising twist, it’s been announced that a total of 13 players, excluding Mulligan as the game master, will be part of Campaign 4. Joining the main Critical Role cast will be Luis Carazo, Robbie Daymond, Aabira Iyengar, Whitney Moore, and Alex Ward as permanent players for this new campaign.
It’s important to note that there is some strong language used in the announcement video, so fans should be prepared accordingly.
In order to manage a game with 13 players consistently, Critical Role has opted for the West Marches TTRPG structure in this campaign. The cast will be divided into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Seekers, and Schemers. These groups represent different focuses – Soldiers are combat-oriented, Seekers delve into lore and adventure, while the Schemers navigate political intrigue. At present, the specific composition of these teams remains undisclosed, as per Mulligan’s recent statement.
In Campaign 4, we delve into a fresh universe named Araman, which appears to have no ties whatsoever with Exandria. This narrative unfolds 70 years following the mortals’ uprising against the divine Shapers, leading to a chaotic and unstable magic system. The world teems with mythical beings, shrouded secrets, and breathtaking landscapes.
Viewers can watch the premiere of Campaign 4 on Critical Role’s Beacon streaming platform on October 2nd. After that, new episodes will be available every Thursday (except for holidays and breaks), also streamed on Twitch and YouTube. Each previous ‘Critical Role’ campaign has been a lengthy, multi-year adventure spanning over 100 episodes, filled with an array of intricate characters. Given the sizeable cast in Mulligan’s campaign, it’s likely to follow suit and be just as captivating.
