Key Highlights
- In an unsurprising twist of events, Sillytuna’s attackers turned $2M of pilfered crypto into Monero, because apparently “traceable” is so last season.
- About $6.5M in USDC/USDT was tossed into exchanges; 375 ETH was given a scenic route through Tornado Cash for added drama.
- The full $24M loot now flits across Ethereum, Arbitrum, Bitcoin, and Hyperliquid wallets like a caffeinated squirrel on roller skates.
Some anonymous villain, who clearly took “sharing is caring” to a criminal extreme, nicked $24 million from Sillytuna-an NFT and gaming aficionado-and decided that Monero was the cryptocurrency equivalent of a trench coat and sunglasses.
On-chain investigator PeckShieldAlert confirmed this on X (because Twitter is too mainstream) on Monday, revealing the attacker swapped around $2 million worth of DAI and ETH for exactly 6,174.4 XMR. Someone was precise about their villainy.

Monero now resides comfortably on Hyperliquid. Meanwhile, roughly $6.5 million in USDC and USDT were tossed into centralized exchanges with all the subtlety of a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. And 375 ETH took a whirlwind tour through Tornado Cash, presumably to enjoy a brief vacation from scrutiny.
How the attack happened
Sillytuna first sounded the alarm on X, reporting the attackers were surprisingly persuasive with weapons and threats. His own words: “Bruised, held off while I could, but can’t do that much with axes over your hands and feet.”
Despite his valiant attempts against four assailants, Sillytuna ended up with a front-row seat to his crypto vanishing act. Authorities are reportedly involved, though details are as murky as a goblin’s laundry.
Tracking the stolen funds
Blockchain sleuths Arkham Intelligence and PeckShield have been tailing the stolen treasure like fantasy bounty hunters. Arkham reported that $20 million was tucked into DAI across two Ethereum addresses, presumably with a “Do Not Disturb” sign.
$20 Million of the funds are stored in 2 separate addresses on Ethereum as DAI.
The attackers have bridged $2.48M to USDC on Arbitrum, sent $2.47M to Hyperliquid via 19 Wagyu accounts, which then purchased XMR that…

Smaller amounts were sneakily bridged elsewhere: $2.48 million to Arbitrum, $2.47 million to Hyperliquid through Wagyu-linked accounts, and about $1.1 million got a Bitcoin makeover via LiFi, with part whisked off to a mixing service. The criminal’s motto: “Untraceable and unrecoverable or bust.”
Why Monero
Monero is the introverted cousin of crypto-keen on privacy and allergic to nosy ledger inspectors. It hides sender, receiver, and amount, making most blockchains look like over-sharers at a tea party.
Sillytuna, ever the optimist, dangled a 10% bounty for anyone who could track down his millions, cheerfully noting that participation is encouraged even if you “may have been involved.” Investigators and exchanges have been politely asked to help untangle this digital hide-and-seek.
