Xur, the weekend vendor in Destiny 2, appears to be responding to the recent announcement that the game will no longer be fully supported after June 2026. Destiny 2 has been changing significantly since the release of its Final Shape expansion, which concluded the story of the Light and Darkness and began a new narrative focused on The Nine.
Many players considered The Final Shape to be the perfect ending to the decade-long story Bungie crafted in Destiny 2. While the game’s world and characters still have a lot of potential for future stories, Destiny 2 will stop receiving major updates in June 2026. After that, it will remain playable, but without new content, meaning those possibilities will likely never be explored.
Destiny 2’s Xur Says Farewell to Fans With Weapon Lineup
Just after Bungie announced that Destiny 2 will receive its last update in June, the game’s weekly vendor, Xur, showed up with a unique set of items. Usually, his offerings are random, but this week’s legendary weapons seem intentionally chosen, with names and descriptions that appear to be a message from the developers to the game’s fans.
- Seventh Seraph SAW
- Nature of the Beast
- Berenger’s Memory
- First In, Last Out
- Farewell
- The Vision
- Duty Bound
- Deadpan Delivery
- Abyssal Edge

The secret message hidden within Xur’s weapon offerings might not apply to every item he sells, but certain weapons stand out. Each weapon comes with descriptive text or backstory, and some of it seems directed at players. For example, Nature of the Beast warns, “Don’t let them change you,” which feels like a message for all Guardians. Berenger’s Memory encourages players to “Take your place among the company of heroes,” acknowledging those who have contributed to the game’s story. But the text accompanying Duty Bound is particularly significant: it’s a line Sloane says to Zavala, recounting her experiences fighting the Hive on Earth and Titan, and promising to continue the fight. Given that a Destiny 3 isn’t planned, Sloane—and perhaps the game’s fans—may never get the resolution she deserves.
Deadpan Delivery’s name itself hints at the game’s possible ending, focusing on the ‘dead’ aspect. The weapons ‘First In, Last Out’ and ‘Farewell’ feel like appropriate goodbyes to the narratives Bungie has created, considering they’ve been in the game for a long time. Many believe Destiny 2 is unique with its challenging raids, engaging story campaigns, and variety of player-versus-environment and player-versus-player activities, and that another game quite like it may never exist – a sentiment that could very well be true.

The future of the Destiny franchise is currently uncertain. While a petition for Destiny 3 is gaining traction online, sources say a third game isn’t currently being made. Most of Bungie’s developers are now working on Marathon, and the company is likely facing significant job cuts. It appears this may be the end of the Destiny series, and fans will have to wait and see what happens.
