The Dragon Ball Super manga hasn’t had a new chapter released in over a year. After Chapter 104 came out last March, the manga went on a break and hasn’t returned yet. 2026 is expected to be a huge year for Dragon Ball, potentially the biggest since Dragon Ball Super first launched in 2025.
Fans of Dragon Ball Super have a lot to look forward to: a remake of the anime, a new sequel, and several upcoming video games. While updates on the Dragon Ball Super manga’s break have been scarce for months, the latest issue of V-Jump magazine suggests a potential return this year, offering fans real hope for new manga chapters.
All Signs Point to the Dragon Ball Super Manga Returning in 2026
The latest issue of V-Jump confirms that new chapters of Dragon Ball aren’t currently being released, which fans have known for a while. However, there are strong signs that the Dragon Ball Super manga will be back soon. In March, the artist, Toyotarou, changed his X (formerly Twitter) bio to say he’s working towards the series’ return, essentially confirming that a new story arc is in development.
Fans can currently vote on their favorite Dragon Ball Super cover art on the official Dragon Ball website. The voting closes in August, and artist Toyotarou will announce the winner during a livestream where he’ll also create a new cover illustration. This event would be a great opportunity for Toyotarou to officially confirm the continuation of the Dragon Ball Super manga. Plus, leaked images of new spine art for Dragon Ball Super Volume 25 confirm that Toyotarou has already created artwork for the next installment.
Each volume of the Dragon Ball Super manga includes four chapters. Because Toyotarou created cover art for a volume after the 24th, chapters 105 to 108 of Dragon Ball Super must exist in some form.

Black Frieza is Coming
The Dragon Ball Super manga seems headed towards a showdown with Black Frieza. He previously defeated both Goku (in his True Ultra Instinct form) and Vegeta (with Ultra Ego) during the Granolah the Survivor Saga. Since then, Goku and Vegeta have been intensely training, as seen in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, to reach new levels of strength. By the end of chapter 103 of the manga, the Z-Fighters – including a fully mastered Ultra Instinct Goku, Ultra Ego Vegeta, Gohan Beast, Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, and Orange Piccolo – are stronger than ever before.
While five warriors could potentially match Black Frieza’s power, Frieza has become incredibly strong – even a threat to the gods. To truly establish himself and increase the danger, Black Frieza should eliminate Beerus, the God of Destruction. Without Beerus to protect them, Goku and the Z-Fighters would be on their own, and even a fusion like Gogeta might not be enough to defeat Frieza. The longer the Dragon Ball Super manga is on hold, the more anticipation will build for the Black Frieza storyline. With the anime remake coming this fall and the artist Toyotarou planning to connect with fans in August, now is the ideal moment to announce the manga’s return.
