The Ethereum Foundation has created a new website to follow the network’s progress in upgrading to post-quantum cryptography, a technology expected to enhance its security.
The new portal consolidates over eight years of research and engineering.
Experts currently don’t think a quantum computer powerful enough to break encryption is an immediate danger. However, the Foundation stressed that switching a worldwide, decentralized system like ours is a long process that requires years of planning and teamwork.

Hence, the new hub is designed to treat this transition as a gradual upgrade.
A sophisticated migration strategy
As an analyst, I’m following the post-quantum initiative closely, and it’s unfolding in a few key stages. First, we’re working on making it easy for users to switch to quantum-resistant security for logins and authentication without causing any network issues. A big part of that is establishing standard methods for verifying post-quantum signatures. Beyond that, we’re planning a significant upgrade to how our network validates transactions. Currently, we use a system called BLS, but we’ll be replacing it with a more secure, hash-based post-quantum alternative called leanXMSS.
Lastly, the data layer will prioritize keeping data accessible and secure by using post-quantum cryptography, specifically by managing what we call “PQ blobs.”
Open-source coordination and resources
Quantum-proofing Ethereum has now turned into a multi-team open-source effort.
The Foundation reports that over ten teams are now successfully creating and launching developer networks each week, thanks to PQ Interop programs.
I’m really impressed with the new website. It lays everything out – the technical plans for the future, all the code is open for anyone to check, plus detailed specs and even research papers. They’ve clearly thought things through because there’s a huge FAQ section that answers tough questions about security, how the system works economically, and potential risks. It’s great to see this level of transparency.
