Microsoft might raise the price of Xbox Game Pass at some point in the future. A leaked memo from Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma suggests the company is considering a price change, though it likely won’t happen immediately.
Xbox Game Pass lets subscribers play a rotating selection of games on Xbox consoles and PCs, including new releases from Microsoft and its studios. The available games cover many genres, from classic Japanese role-playing games like Final Fantasy 4 to relaxing indie titles such as Tiny Bookshop. There are four different Game Pass plans, ranging from $9.99 a month for the basic plan to $29.99 a month for the most comprehensive one.
Xbox Boss Asha Sharma States Xbox Game Pass Is “Too Expensive”
Following a recent price increase for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Microsoft’s new gaming CEO, Asha Sharma, is considering further adjustments. In a memo to Xbox employees, Sharma acknowledged that the current price point is too high for many players and needs to be re-evaluated. She’s exploring a more flexible subscription model, but notes it will take time to develop and test. Sharma plans to discuss these ideas with her team next week, though any price changes are unlikely to happen immediately. It’s currently unknown how much prices might change or if any existing benefits will be adjusted as part of this process.
Sarah Bond, the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming who took over from Phil Spencer a few months ago, recently addressed player feedback about exclusive games. While Microsoft has been making some of its titles, like Halo: Campaign Evolved and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, available on PlayStation 5, Bond has recognized the desire for more games only available on Xbox. She responded to one request for exclusives on social media with a simple, “Heard you.” As Microsoft continues to develop its next Xbox console, known as Project Helix, it’s unclear how much emphasis the company will place on creating games specifically for that platform.
Xbox Game Pass Changes are Likely Coming in Some Capacity
A recent memo from Sharma followed online rumors that the next Call of Duty game might not be included with Xbox Game Pass. According to Jez Corden, reports suggest the 2026 Call of Duty title could skip Game Pass altogether, which would disappoint subscribers. Offering Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on Game Pass from day one reportedly cost Microsoft hundreds of millions of dollars in potential sales. It’s currently unknown whether Microsoft will follow through with removing future titles from the service.

Okay, so even if Xbox Game Pass changes a lot in 2026, it’s still packed with tons of games to play right now. April 2026 looks especially good! It’ll be interesting to see what Microsoft does with the service moving forward – hopefully, they make choices that are good for us players and keep the whole thing sustainable.
