I hadn’t played Hello Kitty Island Adventure in a while, but I was excited to jump back in when it came to Switch. I don’t usually play games that are as charming as this one. While I really enjoyed Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I surprisingly found myself loving Sunblink’s game even more. I’ve already bought two Tuxedo Sam plushies and received some figurines as gifts! It’s a genuinely sweet and wholesome game, and we need more like it.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a surprisingly sweet and enjoyable game, even more so than many candy-themed games! I originally reviewed the mobile version in 2023, and the Switch version remains very similar. You can check out my original review if you’d like, but the Switch version really shines on the OLED screen. While I experienced some brief freezes when playing on my TV, the game generally ran smoothly during my time exploring the island.

The game immediately throws you into the action – you literally parachute in with Hello Kitty and her friends! Unlike some cozy games where you start with nothing, this one feels immediately engaging. While you don’t begin with a home, there are tons of quizzes and quests to keep you busy. These quests often involve collecting items, but the real joy comes from meeting and interacting with a delightful cast of characters from the Sanrio universe. Hello Kitty Island Adventure for the Nintendo Switch is a delightful surprise after years of anticipation. While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of games like Animal Crossing, it carves its own unique path and actually excels in many areas, offering a wealth of daily activities.
