How to Complete One of the Rarest Achievements in Aphelion

In Aphelion, Secondary Markers are the most challenging collectibles to locate. There are 27 hidden throughout the game’s levels, and you need to use the Pathfinder tool to reveal each one. Because there are so many, and they’re hard to find, earning all of them is the second-rarest achievement in the game on Steam.

This guide will show you exactly where to find all 27 Secondary Markers in Aphelion, making it simple to unlock the Webb achievement.

All Secondary Marker Locations in Aphelion

You can only see the hidden Secondary Markers when using the Pathfinder and looking right at where they are. To save you from having to replay missions, we’ve found all of them and listed their locations in the table below.

Ice Formation (Like it’s calling me) 10 After reaching the second research station along the Styx River, walk forward and look to the right.

Where to Find Every Secondary Marker in Aphelion

How to Complete the Webb Achievement/Trophy in Aphelion

Here’s a guide to help you find all 27 Secondary Markers in Aphelion. The markers are listed in the order they appear within each chapter.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Opening
  • Chapter: “The Pulse”

The Opening Secondary Marker is your first introduction to Secondary Markers in Aphelion. After sliding into an icy cave, the game will ask you to use your Pathfinder to find an exit. Simply look towards the EM Junction and zoom in to unlock this marker.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Formation (What could that be?)
  • Chapter: “The Pulse”

The second marker is in the same cave as the first one. Once you’ve found the ‘Opening’ marker, turn right with your Pathfinder. You’ll see a natural ice sculpture – using the Pathfinder to look at it will confirm it as the second marker.

Pay careful attention to this Secondary Marker, as it is home to your first Glyph.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Double Ring
  • Chapter: “The Escape Pod”

Once you’re controlling Thomas after exiting the escape pod in Chapter 3, turn directly to your right and look at the wall. Use the Pathfinder to locate the Double Ring symbol even though it’s behind the wall.

Don’t worry if you missed this marker! It appears several times throughout Chapter 3, so just look up at the sky to find it again.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Strange Formations
  • Chapter: “The Escape Pod”

As you continue along the path in Chapter 3, you’ll reach a river with unusual holes nearby. Use the Pathfinder to examine these holes and record their Secondary Marker.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Pit
  • Chapter: “The Escape Pod”

You’ll find this hidden marker in Chapter 3, near the “Strange Formations” marker. After you enter the wider area with rivers, look to your right for a large pit. Scanning this pit will reveal the marker.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Arch
  • Chapter: “The Escape Pod”

You’ll be able to see the Arch earlier in this section, but you’ll need to approach it to scan it properly. We discovered that we were close enough to register it after passing through the narrow opening in the wall, beyond the Strange Formations and Pit markers.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Unknown Machine
  • Chapter: “The Escape Pod”

As you continue along the path at the beginning of this chapter, listen for a peculiar beeping sound. After crawling through a narrow opening, you’ll find yourself in an open area with a small device near the river. Use your Pathfinder to scan the device and locate its Secondary Marker.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Abandoned Equipment
  • Chapter: “The Escape Pod”

After entering the Abandoned Station, you’ll need to keep Thomas connected to oxygen to help him breathe. Once you reach the second oxygen station, use your Pathfinder to scan it – this will reveal the Abandoned Equipment Secondary Marker.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Deserted Gear
  • Chapter: “The Escape Pod”

You’ll find the “Deserted Gear” marker at the third oxygen station within the Abandoned Station area. Once you’ve connected to the oxygen tank covered in ice, scan the space above it to reveal the marker.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Unknown Device
  • Chapter: “The Escape Pod”

Once you’ve connected to the oxygen tank at the Deserted Gear location, look to your right. Use the Pathfinder to scan across the gap, and you’ll find the Secondary Marker for the Unknown Device.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Formation (Looks like a sculpture)
  • Chapter: “The Escape Pod”

As you venture further into the Abandoned Station, you’ll come to an open area where there isn’t an oxygen tank immediately available. You’ll find the Unknown Device to your right and the Ice Formation to your left.

We learned from our first try that it’s easy to spend too much time examining the Ice Formation. We ran out of oxygen trying to reach the next tank and had to start over. To avoid failing, we strongly suggest locating the next oxygen tank before you explore or interact with the Ice Formation.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Cave
  • Chapter: “The Onyx Forest”

Once you’ve escaped Nemesis and left its cave, look for a distant, shimmering light. Scan this light, then look slightly to the left and up to find the next marker for the cave.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Formation (Another one)
  • Chapter: “The Onyx Forest”

You’ll find this marker near the Cave marker. After scanning the Cave, move closer to the edge of where you’re standing. Look diagonally to the left of the Cave marker – the Ice Formation marker is located below a ledge.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Formation (Looks intriguing)
  • Chapter: “The Onyx Forest”

Although this is the second area called “Ice Formation” in Chapter 4 of Aphelion, it’s considered a new and separate place. You can find it in the Geyser region, which becomes available after you escape from Nemesis a second time.

Continue along the path until you get to a split in the road. When you reach the fork, take the right path. This will lead you to a gap with a single platform in the center. You’ll need to jump onto that platform and across the gap, avoiding the geysers, to reach the Secondary Marker.

This Secondary Marker is home to a Glyph, so it is important to get close to it to unlock both.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Formation (Curious shape)
  • Chapter: “The Outpost”

After you’ve investigated the Outpost and repaired the rover, go to the Annex. As soon as you enter the main lab, look to your left – you’ll find an Ice Formation that you can scan right away.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Elevator
  • Chapter: “The Base”

When you approach the base, you’ll find the power is off. To get it back on, locate and start a generator on the hill to the left of the base. Use the Pathfinder to scan the area around the generator – you should find the Elevator Secondary Marker hidden underneath it.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Equatorial Storm
  • Chapter: “The Storm”

Once you’ve slid down the first hill in Chapter 7, look up at the sky. You’ll then see the Equatorial Storm Secondary Marker.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Formation (The planet’s language?)
  • Chapter: “The Storm”

As you begin the Equatorial Storm, find three rocks to hide behind, then climb onto the platform. The third rock is located to the right of an icy area. From that ice, look straight across to spot the Ice Formation.

  • Secondary Marker Name: A Way Out?
  • Chapter: “The Storm”

In this section, players will need to navigate a cave while avoiding Nemesis and searching for the way out. They can use a Decoy Anomaly in the first room to quickly bypass Nemesis and reach the next area. From there, a water slide will lead them to the cave’s exit.

Okay, so I figured out that to get through, I need to use the Pathfinder to locate the cave exit – that’s where I’ll find the Secondary Marker. Once I scan that, I have to activate the Decoy Anomaly right here. Then, the cool part – I get to slide down the water to finally get out!

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Formation (Even underground…)
  • Chapter: “The Storm”

Once you’ve escaped the Nemesis Arena, keep climbing upwards to reach the surface. You’ll encounter another Ice Formation during your ascent. Be sure to scan it – you’ll find a Secondary Marker there.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Wall
  • Chapter: “The Nexus”

Once you’ve been to the Medical Bay, exit the Base and follow the path. The camera will pull back to give you a view of the area. When it zooms back in, turn around and use your scanner to locate the Ice Wall marker.

Even if your oxygen is running low, you can still see this marker using the first oxygen tank available in this location.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Equatorial Storm
  • Chapter: “Reunion”

You can find this optional marker as soon as you reach Chapter 9. Turn to face the icy cliffs and use your Pathfinder. This will reveal the Equatorial Storm marker close to the edge of the cliffs.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Crashed Elevator
  • Chapter: “Reunion”

Once you notice the elevator to the Nexus is missing, jump onto the large crate nearby to reach a staircase on the right. Ariane will record a new message explaining the situation. When she’s done, use the Pathfinder to scan the area where the elevator used to be – you’re looking for a Secondary Marker.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Breach
  • Chapter: “The Styx”

As you follow Thomas’ visions through the caves, one of them will mention Ariane’s noble character. To find this vision, you’ll need to jump across some platforms in the river and climb up the nearby ledge. Once you reach it, the vision will walk across a narrow bridge and then vanish.

Don’t cross the bridge just yet. Turn around and face the darkness, then activate your Pathfinder. You should be able to see the secondary Breach Marker from where you are.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Formation (What does it mean?)
  • Chapter: “The Styx”

This Secondary Marker in Aphelion can be surprisingly easy to overlook. To find it, start at the end of the long bridge where one of Thomas’s illusions walks at the beginning of the level. Climb the wall nearby, then go as far up and to the right as possible to reach a higher ledge.

Walk to the edge of the platform and remove the strange object to allow you to plug in your cable to the crystal on the wall. Swing to the other side, then turn left to find an opening in the wall. Go through the opening and look down at the floor to discover the hidden Ice Formation.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Styx River
  • Chapter: “The Styx”

Once you’ve found Phaedra Duan’s body, head down to the next level to find a small workspace used by the Project Aphelion team. To continue, you’ll need to break down a short wall that’s blocking an opening. Crawl through that opening, and then use your Pathfinder device on the broad section of the river ahead to activate the next location marker.

  • Secondary Marker Name: Ice Formation (Like it’s calling me)
  • Chapter: “The Styx”

After you arrive at the second research station, keep following the path. Look through the opening in the wall on your right. You’ll see the Ice Formation Secondary Marker straight ahead, on the other side of the room.
