In Crimson Desert, you can obtain Thin Hide by hunting and skinning small animals like foxes and baby deer. Any of the small mammals found throughout the world of Pywel will yield the same resource when skinned: Thin Hide.
Players can also buy Thin Hide from any tannery vendor for a small amount of copper. These vendors restock their supply of Thin Hide and other materials every five days in the game.
How to Get Thin Hide in Crimson Desert
The following are all possible ways players can get Thin Hide in Crimson Desert.
- Hunt and skin small mammals
- Buy from Tannery
Small Mammals
In Crimson Desert, you can obtain Thin Hide by hunting and skinning small animals such as foxes, young deer, reindeer, weasels, raccoons, rabbits, rats, chipmunks, and hedgehogs. These creatures are typically found in forests, but can also appear in desert and mountain areas.
Unlike foxes, most small animals are difficult to target automatically. When hunting with a bow, you’ll need to use precision aiming to hit them. With melee weapons, you’ll have to carefully time your attacks based on distance to connect.
The Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger helps you gather 10% more hides each time you skin an animal. It’s a good item to get if you want to speed up your gathering.
To effectively target small mammals, use special abilities like the Blinding Flash Finisher or Meteor Kick. Standard attacks aren’t accurate enough for these smaller creatures.
You can’t get Thin Hide from young farm animals like kids (baby goats), lambs (baby sheep), or piglets, even though they are small mammals. Baby cows, called calves, yield Short Hair Hide when skinned, not Thin Hide.
Buy from Tannery
Thin Hides are available from any Tannery merchant for 8 Copper each. They usually have 4 in stock, and get more every 5 game days (which is about 10 real-time hours).
With only 7 Tanneries available in Crimson Desert, you can get a maximum of 28 Thin Hides by completing them all. After that, you’ll have to wait 120 in-game hours before they restock.
Best Method to Farm Thin Hides in Crimson Desert
The ideal location for collecting Thin Hides in Crimson Desert is a clearing west of Hernand City, just southwest of Grimnir’s Kuku Shop. At night, a large group of deer and fawns consistently appears here, making it a great place to farm these hides. Here’s how to do it.
- Pass the time by resting in a bed or at a bonfire until it is nighttime (after 11:00 PM).
- Select Kilnden Workshop just north of your location and open its details by pressing Triangle/Y (Controller) or double-clicking LMB (PC).
- Wait for the 3D Render of the Workshop to load in, then exit out of the menu back into the game.
- Hunt and skin as many baby deer as you can get your hands on once again.
- Repeat as many times as needed to get the required amount of Thin Hides.
Head to the exact location shown in the map above until you come across a large herd of deer grazing on grass near a shallow stream of water and a broken log.
Hunt and skin any baby deer you can catch to get some Thin Hides.
Open the map and select “Factions” from the top tab.
Immediately, you’ll see that all the deer and baby deer that you killed or chased away have respawned in their previous location.
Okay, so if you want to use this Thin Hide farming trick, you have to make sure a setting is turned on. Go to Options, then Language and Gameplay under ‘Others’, and check that ‘View 3D Stronghold Details on the Map’ is set to ‘On’. Seriously, it won’t work if you don’t!
