In 007 First Light, you’ll experience exciting combat, ranging from quiet stealth to intense gunfights. While shooting is a key part of the game, close-quarters combat is also important. Learning to Parry effectively is crucial for success. This guide will teach you how to become a master of the Parry in 007 First Light.
How to Parry in 007 First Light
- Default Controls for Parry: Q on PC, Circle on PlayStation, B on Xbox
In 007 First Light, blocking attacks in close combat is often done by parrying, in addition to sidestepping. To parry, watch for a yellow glow that appears when an enemy attacks. Press the Parry Button when you see this glow to successfully block the attack.
Okay, so I learned the hard way that just spamming the Parry button doesn’t work! Instead, you really need to slow down and focus on timing your parry with that yellow flash you see on enemy attacks. That yellow glow is your cue – it shows you when you can actually parry, but the timing changes depending on the enemy, what attack they’re using, and even how hard you’re playing the game. It takes practice, but it’s way more effective than just mashing the button!
A Parry will do one of two things depending on the attack:
- Block an incoming attack.
- Perform a Counter, throwing the enemy and leaving them vulnerable.
Once you successfully block an attack with a Parry, you have a couple of options. If the enemy is still rapidly attacking in a combo, keep parrying. If they’re moving too fast to block predictably, try sidestepping. Alternatively, if you create an opening – especially after a Counter – immediately attack to deal damage.
To sum up, here are the basic steps to Parrying:
- Wait for the yellow glow for an incoming attack.
- Press the Parry Button right after spotting the yellow glow.
- Anticipate the next attack or follow up with your own attack if there is an opening.
You don’t have to be looking at an enemy to block their attacks with a parry. Even if they’re attacking you from behind, you can still parry as usual.
Can you Parry Every Attack in 007 First Light?
In 007 First Light, you can block most close-range attacks by parrying. However, there are two types of attacks you can’t parry. First, ‘Charge Attacks’ are signaled by a red glow (normal attacks glow yellow). When you see a red glow, don’t try to parry – instead, quickly move to the side to dodge the attack.
Another situation where Parrying isn’t helpful is when opponents are already defending with a Parry or Block. Since they aren’t attacking, a Parry won’t do anything. Instead, hold the Grab button to grab them and then follow up with punches. Alternatively, quickly press and release the Grab button to throw them and break their guard.
Here’s a quick rundown on how to perform each action:
- Side Step: Space + Direction on PC, X on PlayStation, A on Xbox
- Grab: E on PC, R2 on PlayStation, RT on Xbox
