In NTE: Neverness to Everness, players can try out new characters through Character Trials. This lets them test a character’s skills and abilities before deciding if they want to spend their Dice to unlock it permanently, ensuring they enjoy the character before investing resources.
It’s tough to decide which free character to choose with the S-Class selector because you can’t usually try out characters from the Standard Banner first. However, you can get a feel for some of them through a feature called NTE. Here’s how it works.
How to Play Character Trials for Limited Board Characters in NTE
In NTE, the Limited Board, also known as the Time-Limited Banner, highlights four characters with increased appearance rates. These include one S-Class character and three A-Class characters. The characters featured on this banner change with each new game update. For instance, in Version 1.0, the Limited Banner – called the Ichi-daime – included Nanally, Edgar, Mint, and Adler.
Every character available on a Limited Board has special trials that players can use to test their abilities before deciding whether to spend resources to obtain them.
You can access the Character Trial in a couple of ways. Either go to Events → Time Limited Tab → Market Opening Rehearsal, or find it through the Scarborough Fair menu by clicking the avatar icon at the bottom of your screen.
Once you’ve chosen a character, simply click on their portrait, then select the “Trial” button at the bottom of the screen. This will bring you to a practice area where you can test out their basic attacks, special skills, and ultimate moves, helping you understand how they play.
How to Play Character Trials for Standard Banner Characters in NTE
In NTE, you can try out characters from Limited Banners before getting them, but this isn’t available for most characters on the Standard Banner. There aren’t any official trials for Standard Banner characters except for Mint, Adler, Skia, and Edgar, who are featured in the Exploration Guide tutorial. However, we’ve found a way to test out some (but not all) Standard Banner characters in the game, including a few of the strongest ones. Here’s how it works.
Open the Exploration Guide and select the Tutorial section (it’s the second icon from the bottom). You’ll see two tabs: Character Tutorial and Basic Tutorial. The Basic Tutorial lets you try out all the Esper Cycle reactions in NTE, including Remora, Blossom, Scorch, and more.
The game lets you try out character combinations – usually two or three at a time – to activate special effects called Esper Cycle reactions. A neat thing players might not know is that this is also a free way to experiment with different characters’ skills and abilities before you spend resources trying to unlock them through the main summoning system.
Here’s a list of playable characters and the tutorial videos for their corresponding Esper Cycles:
| Esper Cycle: Blossom | Zero + Mint |
|---|---|
| Esper Cycle: Remora | Hathor + Zero |
| Esper Cycle: Hexed | Mint + Sakiri |
| Esper Cycle: Nova | Daffodil + Haniel |
| Esper Cycle: Scorch | Daffodil + Sakiri |
| Esper Cycle: Stain | Haniel + Hathor |
| Esper Cycle: Charge | Mint + Zero + Hathor |
| Esper Cycle: Discord | Haniel + Daffodil + Sakiri |
Creatures in the anomaly will reappear even after you defeat them. You can experiment with different characters for as long as you like.
