Starting today, Xbox Game Pass members—no matter which plan they have—can play the classic RPG Final Fantasy V as part of their subscription. It’s the first game being added to the Game Pass library in May 2026 and the 73rd addition this year.
The Final Fantasy series is getting a lot of love on Microsoft’s gaming service lately, with a new game added for subscribers every month. The latest addition to Xbox Game Pass was Final Fantasy 4, which became available on April 7th.
Xbox Game Pass Adds Its 5th Final Fantasy Game in 5 Months
Following the pattern of previous releases, Final Fantasy V became available on Xbox Game Pass on May 5th, 2026. Like the first four games in the series, this version comes from Square Enix’s popular Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series, which first launched in 2021 and was later released as a complete collection in 2023.
The Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster is a faithful recreation of the 1992 classic, but it doesn’t include all the extra content added in the 2006 Game Boy Advance version. While fans appreciate that added content, the main story and gameplay remain largely the same, with just a few less character classes to choose from. The biggest difference for Xbox Game Pass subscribers is that this version doesn’t have the expanded endgame content found in the 2006 remake.

Xbox Game Pass is adding eight new games in May 2026! Players can look forward to titles like the adventure game Call of the Elder Gods, an early access version of Subnautica 2, the cooking roguelite Beastro, the RPG Echo Generation 2, and the chaotic driving game Crashout Crew. The highly anticipated Forza Horizon 6 is also launching this month and is available to preload now. Finally, RV There Yet, a funny co-op game about a disastrous road trip, is planned for release in May, though a specific date hasn’t been announced yet.

Along with the new games, the announcement will likely confirm that Planet of Lana and at least four other games will be removed from the service on May 15th, just as the Xbox app has already suggested.
