It’s Official: Pokopia is No Longer the Highest-Rated Game of the Year

Pokémon Pokopia is the best-rated Pokémon game ever made. It was also the highest-rated new game released in 2026 for a long time. Both fans and critics love the game, especially how it blends relaxing gameplay with the Pokémon universe.

Reviews for Pokemon Pokopia were overwhelmingly positive, making it the highest-rated new game of 2026 when it first came out. It even surpassed Resident Evil Requiem, earning a score of 90 compared to RE‘s 89. However, Pokopia‘s time at the top didn’t last long, as a recently released game has now taken its place.

OPUS: Prism Peak is Now the Highest-Rated Game of 2026

Okay, so I just discovered this game, OPUS: Prism Peak, and it’s incredible! It’s currently the highest-rated new game of 2026, scoring a 91 on OpenCritic – even beating out Pokopia, which is saying something. Honestly, I hadn’t even heard of it until now, but it’s a narrative adventure where you play as a photographer. You’re traveling with this girl who’s lost her memories through a place called the Dusklands, and you basically explore by taking pictures. You upgrade your camera, find notes, and even interact with spirits! It’s got this really cool anime art style, and the best part is, everyone seems to love it – both critics and players on Steam are giving it rave reviews. It’s a ‘Very Positive’ game right now, so I’m definitely checking it out!

While OPUS: Prism Peak currently has a high rating of 91, it’s important to note that this is based on only 16 reviews from professional critics. This relatively small number of reviews could be inflating the score. Pokopia, for example, has been reviewed 99 times. As more reviews come in, OPUS: Prism Peak‘s rating might go down, but it’s also possible it could stay high or even improve, widening the gap between it and Pokopia.

Several games are currently rated 90 or higher for 2026. Along with OPUS: Prism Peak and Pokopia, Lost and Found Co. has also achieved a 90 overall rating, but it’s based on only 16 reviews, just like OPUS: Prism Peak. The rest of the top 10 games fall in the 80s: Resident Evil Requiem, Mewgenics, and Hermit and Pig all have 89, Esoteric Ebb has 88, and Rhell: Warped Worlds & Trouble Times and Pragmata both have 87. Tombwater rounds out the top games with a score of 86.

The 10 Highest-Rated Games of 2026 (So Far)

1. OPUS: Prism Peak (91) – PC

2. Pokemon Pokopia (90) – Switch 2

3. Lost and Found Co. (90) – PC

4. Resident Evil Requiem (89) – PC/PS5/Switch 2/Xbox Series X

5. Mewgenics (89) – PC

6. Hermit and Pig (89) – PC

7. Esoteric Ebb (88) – PC

8. Rhell: Warped Worlds & Troubled Times (87) – PC

9. Pragmata (87) – PC/PS5/Switch 2/Xbox Series X

10. Tombwater (86) – PC

As a gamer, I’m already anticipating that the list of the top 10 games of 2026 is going to look very different as new titles come out. I think the really amazing games – the ones everyone’s giving 90+ scores to – will probably stay near the top, but I expect a lot of the others will get replaced as even better games are released!
