New Friendslop Game on Steam is a Horror Take on Jumanji

Okay, so I was checking out this new horror game on Steam called Invokyr, and I noticed something cool – a bunch of hidden references to Jumanji in the trailer! It’s not the first game to get inspiration from Jumanji, but what’s really interesting is that Invokyr is mixing that adventure vibe with a co-op horror experience, which I haven’t really seen before. It looks pretty unique!

There are already two Jumanji video games available on Steam: Jumanji: The Video Game (released in 2019) and Jumanji: Wild Adventures (2023). Both games are designed for families and are best played with others. Wild Adventures has more action, while the earlier game focuses more on solving puzzles and navigating levels using parkour.

Invokyr Is Jumanji, But with Terrifying Monsters

Created by the independent studio Ludogram, Invokyr shares a premise with Jumanji: a group of friends finds a vintage board game in a haunted house, and playing it unleashes unforeseen consequences. However, instead of wild animals or natural disasters like in Jumanji, this game conjures up frightening monsters, some reminiscent of those found in horror games such as Poppy Playtime.

Jumanji Easter Eggs in Invokyr’s Trailer

  • Characters in one of the game’s trailers are named Alan, Judy, and Peter, who are the protagonists of the first Jumanji film (played by Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, and Bradley Pierce, respectively).
  • There is a “white hunter” enemy in the trailer that looks undeniably similar to Van Pelt, one of the main villains in Jumanji.
  • Invokyr’s board game and its meeples bear a resemblance to Jumanji, and they move on their own just like shown in the movies.

Invokyr appears to be a great game for those who enjoy playing with friends on Steam. The core idea is to escape a haunted house, and each round involves players cooperating to dodge monsters, collect dice, and move their game pieces. One player takes on the role of the Gamemaster, whose job is to change the rules and create challenges for everyone else.

Similar to the movie Jumanji, dice are central to the gameplay of Invokyr. Players have to search the house to find dice, and each one can only be used once. Rolling the dice moves the game forward, but it also risks summoning frightening monsters. There are also special dice that give players helpful power-ups or items. Like the board game in Jumanji, the haunted house in Invokyr features different environments, including a jungle – a setting well-known from the films.

We don’t have a release date for Invokyr yet, but data suggests a closed test happened in May 2026, hinting that development is going well. If you’re a fan of Jumanji and enjoy playing co-op horror games, it’s worth keeping an eye on this one. The developer, Ludogram, has other games available on Steam too, like Tabletop Game Shop Simulator, which might appeal to Jumanji fans.
