As usual, expect plenty of shows where characters are magically transported to fantastical worlds – often gaining incredible powers, wealth, and romantic interests. While some might find themselves in difficult, even brutal, situations, most isekai anime focus on wish fulfillment and characters becoming incredibly powerful.

While sequels often steal the show, new isekai anime are consistently released and we usually see a few good ones with overpowered main characters or stories focused on villainesses. Isekai tends to focus on releasing a lot of content, sometimes at the expense of quality, but enjoyable shows still emerge. With that in mind, here’s a look at all the isekai anime currently scheduled for release in 2026.

The movie is based on Meikyuu no Shiori and tells the story of a girl who becomes trapped in a different version of her world inside her smartphone. While it’s mainly science fiction, the story has the potential to be scary too.

I’ve noticed that anime featuring romantic relationships between boys, especially in the ‘isekai’ (transported to another world) genre, are pretty rare. So, when Winter 2026 had two of them, it was a real surprise! One of them, Sai Oshi no Gikei o Mederu Tame, Nagaiki Shimasu!, is a bit of everything – it combines the isekai world, reincarnation, the structure of an otome game, a boys’ love story, and even a step-sibling dynamic. It’s definitely a unique mix that won’t appeal to everyone. The story centers around Alba, who’s been reborn, and his step-brother, Orsis – who also happened to be Alba’s favorite character in the game he knew before being reborn. Alba is determined to use his prior knowledge to make sure he and Orsis can grow old together.

When it comes to isekai anime from Winter 2026, I’ll Live a Long Life to Dote on My Favorite Stepbrother! was probably the weakest in most respects. However, the episodes are very short – only four minutes each – and clearly made with a limited budget, so it’s fair to not expect too much. On the plus side, the show does have a pretty unusual story idea.

Another boys’ love anime coming in Winter 2026 is Isekai Office Worker, adapted from a well-regarded light novel and manga. The boys’ love genre has evolved recently, moving away from problematic power dynamics, and this series fits that newer, more mature style. The story follows Kondou, an accountant who is transported to a fantasy world and ends up managing finances for the royal family. His skills quickly attract the attention of the head knight.

It’s tough to recommend this anime to everyone, even though it’s generally okay. You really need to like both portal fantasy and boys’ love romance to get the most out of it – people who only enjoy one of those themes might not stick with it. Isekai Office Worker is a perfectly functional example of both genres, but it truly shines as a boys’ love story set in a portal fantasy world. However, the central romance feels a bit dated, leaning into older yaoi tropes that aren’t as common in modern series.

There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, so I Tried Confessing to Her is a charming isekai about Yoki, a demon who used to be human and is tired of working in a dungeon. His life changes when he falls head-over-heels for a hero priestess, inspiring him to confess his feelings and become an adventurer. As Yoki tries to win Cecilia’s heart, he discovers more about this new world. While it’s funny, this anime is a great pick for anyone who enjoys romance.

There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, So I Tried Confessing to Her is an enjoyable anime, though it feels a bit rushed. The characters occasionally come close to being irritating, but thankfully avoid it. The story moves at a very fast pace, quickly introducing characters and plot points without much time for the audience to process everything. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s certainly watchable.

I’ve been watching A Gentle Noble’s Vacation Recommendation, and it’s shaping up to be exactly what viewers wanting a slower, more focused isekai anime have been waiting for this Winter 2026 season. The main character, Lizel, finds himself in a new world with no clue how he got there, but he’s determined to make the most of it and enjoy a truly relaxing experience. He was a nobleman in his past life, so he’s intentionally choosing a different path here – becoming an adventurer, but one who’s more interested in having fun than achieving great things.

I’m really enjoying A Gentle Noble’s Vacation Recommendation! While it’s not strictly a boys’ love story, the connection between Lizel and Gil definitely feels like one. What I love is that the show doesn’t overexplain things – it lets subtle interactions and little gestures speak for themselves, and trusts you to pick up on the chemistry. It’s a really nice touch!

Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord follows a familiar story: a man is reborn after dying and remembers his past life as a salaryman. Van, as a young child, quickly gains recognition for his intelligence thanks to his previous work experience. However, when his magical abilities turn out to be focused on creation rather than combat, his family rejects him, leaving him only with his loyal maid. Determined to show them his worth, Van embarks on a journey to prove them wrong.

This is a pretty powerful protagonist (OP) anime set in another world (isekai). If you enjoy those kinds of shows, this one might be for you, though it’s not currently standing out as exceptionally great. The main character, Van, has the ability to transform wood into almost anything he imagines – or at least, that’s what it seems like so far.

Hell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World with Garbage Balancing

I noticed Winter 2026 didn’t have a breakout isekai anime; all the major sequels were slated for the spring. So, a new series really needed to stand out, and Hell Mode looked like it might be the one. It follows the familiar isekai setup – someone gets pulled into a never-ending game world – but with a twist. The main character chooses the Summoner class, which initially seems… not very helpful, honestly.

While the beginning of Hell Mode isn’t the strongest, it gets better as the story unfolds. It’s engaging to watch the main character constantly battle and work hard for even small victories. The series definitely earns its “Hell Mode” title by not giving the protagonist an easy path, though it’s not overly grim or dark.

Winter 2026 anime seemed to really embrace charming stories about being reborn into another world, and Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling might be the most heartwarming one yet. The story centers around a hero who starts a new life as a baby dragon, which naturally comes with a learning curve before he can unlock his full potential. The team behind The Most Notorious “Talker” Runs the World’s Greatest Clan – a standout show from Fall 2024 – is responsible for this new series.

Each anime season always seems to have at least one show about a villainess transported to another world, and Winter 2026 continued that trend. The Villainess Is Adored by the Prince of the Neighbor Kingdom does exactly what its title suggests: a woman realizes she’s in a dating sim game right as she’s about to be rejected, but luckily, a prince from a different country steps in and falls for her. Now, Tiararose is determined to create a new future for herself and avoid a disastrous ending.

Thanks to the popularity of Chinese animated series like Lord of Mysteries, more are becoming available to international audiences. B.King is a great example of this growing trend. The story is also quite interesting: it’s about a writer who somehow finds himself trapped inside the world of his own books, alongside his characters.

Spring 2026 Isekai Anime

Release that Witch

Although it doesn’t fit neatly into a specific season and concludes on April 20th, Release that Witch is easily the best isekai series of the year so far, outperforming all Japanese anime from Winter 2026. This show is a donghua – a Chinese animated series – adapted from a popular web novel that was previously turned into a long-running comic (manhua). While the comic’s artwork might suggest a fun, lighthearted story with a harem element, the anime is actually quite realistic and serious, even though it features witches and magic.

Cheng Yan unexpectedly wakes up as Prince Roland in a fantasy kingdom resembling medieval Europe, but on a different world. One of his first actions is to save Anna, a real witch, from execution. While the church views witches as evil, Roland believes magic could greatly benefit his kingdom and help advance technology. This setup – a protagonist using modern knowledge to improve a fantasy kingdom – is common in anime, but Release that Witch differs by not granting Roland any magical powers himself. He must instead depend on the skills of others, like Anna, and his ability to build strong relationships to achieve his goals.

I don’t expect many of the new ones will be particularly memorable. The Strongest Job is Apparently Not a Hero or a Sage, but an Appraiser follows a familiar pattern: the main character, Hibiki, is transported to a fantasy world and discovers his initially unremarkable skill is surprisingly strong. And, predictably, one of his first allies is an elf.

When it comes to new isekai anime, An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess stands out as the best of Spring 2026, though it doesn’t necessarily break new ground (that distinction goes to another show). It’s a classic story about a woman falsely accused of being a villainess in an otome game, but this time told through the eyes of the prince, who finds her strange behavior fascinating.

This clever twist gives the anime a fresh feel, and it’s helped by having well-developed characters in Cecil and Bertia. Cecil is incredibly talented but constantly bored because he’s tired of appearing perfect. Meanwhile, Bertia tries to play the role of the villainess to help the heroine, but she’s simply unable to be truly malicious. Their interactions are delightful and humorous, striking a good balance between comedy and genuine emotion.

That’s quite a title! The ‘isekai’ genre is so overdone that creators really have to be inventive to grab attention, even if their ideas seem strange. While I’m curious to see if anything can surpass it, My Ribdiculous Reincarnation is shaping up to be the most unusual isekai anime of 2026 – assuming it delivers on the promise of its wild title.

The series is currently a bit difficult to get into. While the premise is truly original – each episode explores Ore’s unusual and varied lives, starting with the bizarre concept of being reincarnated as a rib – the anime rushes through everything. There’s very little breathing room for plot development or character moments, and the characters themselves tend to react passively. There’s a lot of potential here, but the humor is likely to appeal to some viewers more than others.

The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System

After several delays and some criticism, the anime The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System is now scheduled to premiere in Summer 2026. The negative attention stems from the studio handling the adaptation, GoHands, which has a somewhat inconsistent track record. While they produced a well-received series like The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today, they’re also known for less successful shows such as Momentary Lily, W’z, and the notoriously bad Hand Shakers. Based on the available trailers and promotional footage, The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System appears to be a typical GoHands production – meaning it could be great, or it could be quite flawed.

Let’s skip the discussion of how this will be adapted and just look at the story. Elma comes from a family famous for swordsmanship, but he’s labeled a ‘Heavy Knight’ – a class generally considered weak. The catch? He realizes he’s in a game, and Heavy Knights are secretly incredibly strong. The source material – both the novel and manga – are already popular, so a good adaptation could be fine. Unfortunately, the animation is being done by GoHands, which is concerning.

If nothing else, The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System should be memorable.

The Forsaken Saintess and her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World

This is a refreshing isekai anime that breaks the mold a bit. Unlike many in the genre, it features an adult protagonist! Rin is already over 30 – considered quite old in anime years – and while she’s summoned as a saintess, she’s quickly dismissed for lacking useful abilities. The story follows her as she explores this new world, enjoying the scenery and local food. It’s similar in vibe to Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, but Rin mostly travels with people instead of monsters. Expect a relaxing and enjoyable slice-of-life adventure.

The World’s Strongest Rearguard: Labyrinth Country’s Novice Seeker

This anime leans into familiar isekai elements – and there’s a reason those tropes are so popular! It follows the story of a man who was a workaholic in his past life and is reborn in a fantasy world with a hidden, powerful ability. He joins an all-female adventuring group, taking on a supportive, defensive role. While that dynamic is a refreshing change – often, isekai heroes do everything while the women just offer encouragement – the overall premise is pretty standard for the genre.

Hopefully, The World’s Strongest Rearguard: Labyrinth Country’s Novice Seeker will be a fun anime to watch each week. It doesn’t need to be amazing, just consistently enjoyable – not every show has to be a classic.

As with most isekai, he’s soon surrounded by female companions. The manga it’s based on has received generally positive reviews, though whether the anime will be good remains to be seen.

The main character is kind and supportive, which should make for a more positive journey.
