The world of One Piece is filled with incredibly strong fighters, each with their own special abilities. Some gain powers from Devil Fruits, others from Haki, and a few use rarer abilities like demonic energy in battle. Recently, the author Eiichiro Oda has greatly expanded on the idea of demonic energy, leading to the introduction of many new, powerful characters who wield it and are shaping the current events of the story.
9. Nico Robin
- Demonic Power: Demonio Fleur
Nico Robin, the archaeologist of the Straw Hat Pirates, has a Devil Fruit power that unexpectedly connects to demonic energy. While her fruit, the Hana Hana no Mi, doesn’t initially seem related to demons, she developed a powerful ability called Demonio Fleur during the Wano Country Arc. This allows her to transform into a large, red, demon-like figure, resembling a powerful individual named Nerona Imu.
This transformation gives her incredible demonic power and a frightening appearance, including large horns, sharp fangs, and huge wings.
8. Sanji
- Demonic Power: Diable Jambe, Ifrit Jambe
I’ve been watching the story of One Piece, and it’s fascinating to see how Sanji, the Straw Hat Pirates’ cook, was actually one of the first characters to tap into this ‘demonic’ power. It’s not that his abilities are inherently evil, but they run on a strange, devilish energy – something we first saw when he awakened his Diable Jambe technique.
Sanji’s Diable Jambe technique creates intense flames around his legs. ‘Diable Jambe’ actually means ‘Devil’s Leg,’ and his Ifrit Jambe technique draws on the power of a ‘Demon God Leg.’ This suggests a connection between Sanji’s abilities and demonic forces, particularly since Imu also uses a similar, flame-based power that produces black flames.
7. Roronoa Zoro
- Demonic Power: Kiki Kyutoryu: Asura
Roronoa Zoro, the swordsman from the Straw Hat Pirates, also uses a dark, powerful energy. He accesses this energy through a technique called Asura. Zoro first unlocked the power of Asura during his battle with Kaku at Enies Lobby.
Zoro’s technique, officially called the Demon God Nine Sword Style, causes a demonic aura to surround him when he uses it. We’ll see much more of this demonic energy in the Final Saga, particularly during his fight with Mihawk.
6. Holy Knights
- Demonic Power: Omen, Covenants
The Holy Knights are devoted followers of Nerona Imu, each granted incredible powers through a special bond called the Depths Covenant. This Covenant gives them abilities like immortality, the power to heal from any injury, and immense strength.
I’ve noticed that the Holy Knights can also receive a boost called ‘Omen,’ which makes them incredibly powerful. From what I’ve seen in the Final Saga, they’re easily among the strongest fighters in the entire One Piece world, and it looks like they’re going to play a huge part in what happens next.
5. Five Elders
- Demonic Power: Abyssal Covenant, Omen
The Five Elders are the most powerful leaders in the world, second only to Nerona Imu. They wield a powerful force called the Abyssal Covenant, giving them incredible abilities like transforming into Yokai, along with immortality, eternal youth, rapid healing, and immense physical strength.
These characters heavily rely on devil fruit abilities in combat, and Eiichiro Oda will likely showcase these powers even more prominently as the story progresses in the Final Saga.
4. Dorry and Brogy
- Demonic Power: Domi Reversi
I recently saw Dorry and Brogy back in action! As co-captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates, they hadn’t been seen for a while, but they reappeared during the Egghead Arc. Now, they’re really taking center stage in the story on Elbaf, and it’s clear why they have a bounty of 1.8 billion berries – they’re incredibly powerful!
When Imu possessed Gunko’s body, they used Domi Reversi, transforming Dory and Brogy into demonic versions of themselves and giving them demonic power. While Dory and Brogy became incredibly strong, the effects wore off when they began battling each other, ultimately resulting in both of them losing their heads.
3. Rocks D. Xebec
- Demonic Power: Domi Reversi
Rox D. Xebec was a hugely powerful pirate in the world of One Piece. Fifty-six years ago, he led an attack on Marijoa and met with Nerona Imu. Thirty-eight years later, Imu orchestrated the complete removal of Rocks’s history, effectively erasing him from the records, during the events on God Valley.
On that crucial day, Imu possessed the body of Saint Saturn, and when Rocks challenged him, Saturn impaled Rocks with his monstrous limbs. These limbs then flooded Rocks with dark energy, subjecting him to a powerful transformation called Domi Reversi. This granted Rocks incredible strength, limitless healing, and immortality, but also enslaved him to Imu. He became so powerful that no one on the island could defeat him alone. Ultimately, it took the combined might of Roger and Garp to overcome him, leading to the total devastation of God Valley.

2. King Harald
- Demonic Power: Depths Covenant
Harald, the King of Elbaf, was incredibly strong – considered a match for the infamous Rocks D. Xebec. Despite his immense power, Harald was a compassionate ruler who simply wished for his people to be accepted and respected, as many nations disliked Elbaf because of its violent past.
Harald offered his loyalty to Nerona Imu and the World Government, hoping to bring the island of Elbaf under their rule. This led to him being marked with the Depths Covenant, which gave Imu complete control over his body. The covenant also infused Harald with immense demonic power – Gaban claims he could have destroyed the world. Ultimately, Harald was killed by his son, Loki.
1. Nerona Imu
- Demonic Power: Akuma no Mi
In the world of One Piece, Nerona Imu, known as the King of the World, is the most powerful user of demonic energy. This power comes from a Devil Fruit, which allows him to transform into a devilish being with tan skin, white hair, large horns, wings, and a naginata weapon. This transformation also gives him complete control over demonic energy, referred to as Omen or Maki within the series.
Imu is incredibly powerful – most characters can’t survive a single hit from him, as demonstrated when he defeated Zoro and Sanji with one blow. Even Loki, a formidable warrior, couldn’t withstand Imu’s attacks, proving Imu is the strongest user of demonic energy in the world of One Piece.
